Lets say the "?" in the center of the island (as seen on the blast doors) with the big tower Rousseau saw is the heart of the "experiment". It has the power to transmit false memories to individuals, in essence, brainwash.

I have a hard time with that. Jack isn't imagining his medical skills.
Kate had the handcuffs on when the crash happened and the marshall
had her mug shot. Kate recognized Charlie as part of Driveshaft.
They would have to give Jin and Sun the exact same
false memory as well as Rose and Bernard. They would also hv to
give Walt and Michael the same memories. Shannon and Boone.
Locke actually has a scar from his kidney surgery. Some of these
could actually be planted props I realize. It just seems that having
them on the island in the first place is enough of an experiment -
why bother with completely false past lives.

I definitely think this is reminiscent of "The Truman Show." The movie of Jim Carey as a guy who grew up from birth under the proverbial microscope of a television audience. Somebody is certainly watching!

Great points, MB. I disagree with any Truman Show/Experiment theories, mostly because I just hope the show doesn't go that route. That's almost as bad as "it's all just a dream." I think the federal marshall and pilot are proof that it wasn't staged and that the past isn't made up. And I doubt they'd let children volunteer to be test subjects. And if they wanted to experiment on creating a Utopian society, why choose a bunch of rejects with a laundry list of issues and personal problems, a lot of which stem from family. If they had the technology to incorporate fake memories, then they should have the technology to just brainwash people into accepting a Utopian society.

I have to admit I have wondered about the authenticity of flashbacks, though. Anything is possible. I better not find a lot of holes when the truth is finally revealed.

Clones take time--have to grow up at the same rate as normal----you may be thinking about mitosis(sp)---the splitting intwo--like ameobes--only then would they have the same memories..up to that point..

i believe in a sense it was fate, not random but planned. remember when rose's husband took her to a faith healer and he said there certain places on the earth with enery or whatever and all he did was tap into that energy and transfer it to ppl. i think that all these ppl are linked by a certain energy and the island drew them there. because in the flashbacks you see that all their lives are intertwined somehow. to me it seems like the island or that enerby is in a way speaking to them.

The Island is Atlantis-smoke monster is an orginal inhabitant,not happy with Dharma takeing over-electro magnet naturally occuring-They'r in the Bermuda Triangle!!!no wonder noone can find them!!
