Kate Austen

Kate Austen is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Kate is a fugitive, and was being pursued by Marshal Mars prior to the flight, for blowing up her father. Kate had been captured in Australia and was being escorted back to the United States before the crash. Kate has always seemed to run away from her past. Even on the Island, Kate exhibits a kind of evasive behavior to escape from her problems. Kate, when on the run, always had good intentions and never did any outright harm or killings to anybody, she believed she was doing things for the greater benefit of others. This view is prominently connected with her actions of her father's murder - she believed she was relieving her mother from his abusive presence. Kate is strong-willed, useful and clever, but dislikes being alone and is usually level-headed.

She has escaped from the captivity of the Others with Sawyer, and has formed an ambiguous romantic relationship with him, despite still being unsure about her feelings for Jack.

Default Magnus Hanso

On the Blast Door Diagram (BDD) there is an inscription that reads "Known final resting place of Magnus Hanso / Black Rock".

I think that Magnus Hanso was the father or ancestor of Alvar Hanso, the first Hanso do discover the Island. Say Magnus survived the crash or whatever happened to the Black Rock, and he made it off the Island alive...He passed on the location to his descendats until Alvar needed a place to put his new investment otherwise know as The DHARMA Initiative.

The Island was the perfect place for DHARMA's H.Q. It was unchartered and empty...When Magnus died his will stated that he wanted to be buried next to his ship, to claim his final resting place next to his own ship.

I was just writing what I thought at that very moment so I plan to edit that a little tonight or whenever ,

I think you've got it right, actually. That's what my guess would be.

I have personally tried my hardest to stay clear of this very topic because i get lost in a lot of the names/theories. However, this seems like an extremely logical theory. I do think whoever this Magnus Hanso is, is related to the Hanso who started (or continued) to run Dharma. Whether the ship was his or not who knows. But it is a good possibility. Nice work.

The new Entertainment Weekly magazine has a hypothesis- "magnus" a possible veiled reference to The Magus, 1965 novel about a man on an island who gets sucked into the midbending "godgame" of a mysterious recluse.
