If we think that Locke may have actually been the smokemonster trying to kill Jacob? What if Faraday getting off the sub was the smoke monster too! He put the wheels in montion by dying and getting Jack to drop the bomb down the shaft?? If you go back and watch the episode Faraday seems real calm and almost different from the time he gets off the sub until the time he gets shot? Just a thought? km

hi, may I give my thoughts?
Many discussions allude to biblical imagary however most of the physical clues are egyptian mythology in origin. the statue is the egyptian god Sobek (Sebek) who was worshipped to placate the crocodiles. Anubis would have fit in better to the thought that Jacob is the guardian of the underworld. Remember that "Jacob" means deceiver. Any way, Sobek assisted Isis when she gave birth to Horus (Horace of the Dharma group?). His father is Osiris (the big god). The kings were the earthly embodiment of Horus. Horus killed Seth (Seti), the god of chaos. Sobek rescued Horus' 4 sons from death and then Anubis (god of the underworld) gave them funeral duties. Eventually they became the protectors of the internal organs. Why Sobek was chosen I don't know. Anubis would have fit the underworld/gods symbolism better. However, the writes of LOST are generating their own mythology by mixing and matching ancient gods of several different civilizations. ALSO the statue is holding an anhk in each hand. The anhk is the egyptian symbol for life ( and female). Jacob and his counterpart are more like warring angels than the biblical Jacob and Esau.Look at the fish Jacob catches - it is a large goldfish which is fresh waster, not saltwater. A mutal friend has the idea that each of the castaways symbolises each of the 7 deadly sins. HUM. |

I'm sorry that was a little jumbled! Now that we can assume the monster can minipulate folks like we assume it did Ben? Could Faraday's exploding the bomb to stop the crash been more of a manipulation than Faraday returning to the island? Just a thought? thanks km

i don't know whether anyone else has commented or saw this but i was just watching the season finale again with my boyfrienfd and made an AWESOME discovery!
when the others (richard, ben, sun, "locke") get to the foot where jacob is for the first time, as they turn toward it (after a brief convo between richard and "locke") "locke's" head emits smoke!!! which leads us to believe that "locke" is smokey!!!! what do you guys think? |

Holy smokes! I saw the smoke that you're talking about. I can't believe nobody mentioned it yet. It's really cool.
I attached a picture of it. A picture doesn't really do it justice since it's easier to see it's moving, but gives people an idea. Edit: Christmas comes early, here's a link to a short video clip of it, courtesy of me! http://142.166.250.145/lost/lockevid.mpg Last edited by robuck; May 15th, 2009 at 12:25 AM. |

Edit: It does look like waves to me. Interesting idea though. |

If Locke is the smoke monster and all the other deceased are the smoke monster, then does that mean Hurly and Miles see the smoke monster whenever they see ghosts? That would mean its not just contained to the island. I hope we see it wreak havoc in a city during the final season.

I thought it might have been the waves too, I noticed it looked like the water was splashing up off that rock. It seemed like an awfully big splash though to be seen that far away and go so high and the waves aren't like tsunami's , I don't know. It's cool though, whatever it is!
