Bernard Nadler

Bernard Nadler is a tail section survivor of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815 and the husband of Rose. He is the only tail section survivor that has not been killed, captured, or assimilated in to the Others. He wasn't seated in the tail section, and was only there when the plane crashed because he was using the bathroom then. Bernard cares very much for Rose and feels a need to fix things, like her cancer, not dissimilar to Jack.

I agree. Locke talked about faith a lot in the first season, and Eko carries his faith on a stick!

This is an excerpt from an article I typed out from an Entertainment Weekly article on Lost....

Quote:
Lost's impressive evolution has been fueled by other (friendly) tensions as well. Season 1 was largely shaped by the like-minded compatibility of co-creators Abrams and Lindelof: fantasyfans, comic geeks, and all-around pop savants. But since Abrams accepted his impossible mission, Lindelof has been piloting Lost with his friend and longtime colleague Cuse. Their collaboration is most clearly evident in season 2's Jack-Locke reason-versus-faith theme, inspired by the spiritual worldviews of Lindelof (Jewish and emprical-minded) and Cuse (Catholic and willing to leap beyond logic). "The collision of our perspectives plays out on the show", says Cuse, who cites Narnia as one touch-stone for the kind of fantastical otherworld Lost is trying to create. "Both of us are searching for the answers to the bigger questions of how you lead a meaningful life, and we've chosen to use the show to explore those questions."

I have to say there have been popular shows out there based in relgion. Like touched by an angel. I personaly will be disapointed if this turns too religious. I believe that faith is a factor and the show hints at good and bad a great deal but I would rather see a super natural or science based explination rather than religious.

I don't think that this show is religious at all.

If I were religious I probably wouldn't watch it.

I think that the writers made it clear what this show is about in the season I finally.

Jack is a man of science and Locke is a man of faith.

In the world we live in, is it not true that every living being is one or the other?

That we question through faith and science where we come from?

That we spend our entire lives wondering and will never know until we die?

That is why this island is NOT purgatory.

Death must be the greatest threat. And so while that hangs in the balance the characters of LOST are put to the test: science or faith?

Survival of the fittest. Alone you die...together you live.

The themes of LOST are brilliant.

On the contrary, I know HARDCORE christians that watch this show and analyze it more then anyone here ever could. I mean, there's no cussing, no real sex.... Just blood and gore, which we know the bible is full of. The bible even has a saucy sex tale here and there.... But yeah, it's wholesome entertainment.

I believe the show actually won some kind of family programming award (I can't remember from whom).

I, for one, AM a hardcore Christian, and I love this show. I think Locke and Ecko are excellent examples of men of faith, even though Locke's faith doesn't seem to be particluarly in God. They carry on with their lives with complete confidence that they are okay because they are living their part of a bigger plan. I love that. No part of this show has ever offended me, except in the last episode apparently Eko said something that was not Biblical truth (that's what I heard on another thread, I missed it on the show).

The difference between men of science and men of faith is men of science spend their entire lives questioning where they come from and where they're going. Men (and women) of faith don't question. We just trust. I don't wonder where I came from, and I don't worry about where I'm going. "For me, to live is Christ, to die is gain." (Php. 1:21)

If you cannot see that LOST has a religious influence on the island then open your eyes and ears, You are watching LOST.

The bible, Virgin Mary, White dove, a priest, and baptism. These have all been big parts of the last few episodes.

"Watching LOST is easier with eyes open !".......My future tatoo.

That's great!

And that's my point, or should I say LOST's point.

Congratulations on your religion. That's what makes LOST great. I am not religious, yet some are and it is winning awards for family programming.

Sorry if I offended anyone, but point proven...

LOST is science (me and others) and religion (others).

It's great.

I'm not religious either. Though it would be silly to underestimate any of the influences of LOST (faith, science).

I see where you are coming from "stoney" (yes I'm going to call you that).

Here's a little something about the award Lost won for family programming:

And if you're interested in learning a little more about faith, here's a link to my church's live streaming services (Saturdays 6pm, Sundays 8, 9:30, 11:30am EST):

Tune in and watch me singin' in the choir.
