Johnathan "John" Locke
Johnathan "John" Locke is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. His paralysis was immediately healed upon crashing on the Island, which has ultimately led him to believe he has some sort of special connection to the Island. He is sometimes shown in antithesis to Benjamin Linus, sharing several traits including the ability to commune with Jacob. Seen as antithetical to Jack Shephard, he and Jack are philosophical opposites and used to share leadership among the survivors, but now seems to be creating his own agenda for his actions on the Island and has broken off from the survivors.

I have always thought that airport dream scene was super important to the show. I think there are many hidden clues in that episode. I also have always thought Desmond's "flashes before your eyes" epi was important, too. I know that whatever the ending is - it will be incredible. Heck, they just made and entire island disappear!!!!! and that is only season four! The Big Finale will be mind-blowing!!!

The reason everyone that was on the plane must return to the Island is B/C someone( Locke , Desmond ?) has figured out the time travel thing and once they get everyone back in one place they will trigger it to become moments before the crash happened and somehow prevent the crash . The plane will safely land at its final destination with ALL the passengers alive and well . Now I know A LOT of thought and technical stuff has gone into all these discussions , but think about the simple references to Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of OZ . Everything ends at the beginning so to speak .... I've thought a lot about all this and I am convinced it will END THIS WAY !!! Maybe not Happily Ever After , but if they remember it all , they will all be BETTER PEOPLE with a good start in the right direction wouldn't you say ?

I like this theory.. I do hope they all remember what all happened that would be helpful to all of them!!!
So how would Penny and Desmond fit in.. Would they be together since they were not on the plane and don't have to go back?

I re-watched Locke's airport dream sequence when Boone was wheeling him around. It all seemed to point to the fact that Locke needed to fix his own problems and not try to run around saving people. He needs to remember that he's a farmer, not a hunter. A farmer takes care of others by being grounded, making good decisions, playing it safe, and not trying to act like a hero. The hunter is always seen as a hero, making snap decisions. Locke obviously doesn't make good snap decisions. He needs to use his skills of patience, observation, and make more conservative decisions. If the show ends the way you say, I hope at least Locke remembers what happened and has learned this lesson. Otherwise what went before would be for nothing.

I also disagree with this end theory. I do think you are right about the everything ends at the beginning. But the beginning of the story is crashing on the island.
I think the show is definitely going to end on the island. Not sure who will be there or what they will be doing, but it is going to be fun to watch and find out.

I like reading/watching stories told in non-linear fashion. But I wouldn't want the narrative to be circular, like this theory seems to suggest.. Personally, I don't enjoy the 'erase & rewind' theme of time-travel stories either, but I do hope to see some cool explanation of all the space-time craziness going on
