Don't get me wrong, I agree that those are strong possibilities, but you just act like they're the only ones. None of us know anything for sure, we just talk about it for fun, so just chill. No-one has to agree with your theory if they don't want to. Although I like the pinky toe evolution angle.
And dude, your Lovecraft knowledge is pitiful beyond repair. No offense, but I don't think you really got the reference I was making. Whatever, not a big thing.

At the Mountain of Madness is not about aliens? Those are earth based giant moths... if so, I misunderstood.

And yes they do. Resistence is Futile. I've cut off my pinky toe, i want to be the first evolved, and everyone should follow, toe and theory... if they know what's good for them.

Hilarious, I want your toe if you kept it. I'll sell it as the "first evolved humans' regret".
This seems off topic but bear with me. Lovecraft's "Old Ones" (Cthulhu, Yog-Sothoth, etc) were not necessarily alien in nature, but instead they represented universal forces as Lovecraft saw them. His assertion was that we, as puny humans, would perceive these forces and personify them as evil because we are so primitive in our thinking. And most of the creatures in his stories weren't extraterrestrial, they just lived among humans and blended in or hid in some way.
It's possible that the island's force is like the Old Ones in that it is, in fact, a being without substance that we perceive in ways we can explain simply to avoid going crazy. Of course, if Damon and Carlton are Lovecraft nuts, then everything makes perfect sense.

You were correct, Tri Smog, I misunderstood Mr. Lovecraft and are sorely lacking in depth of knowledge of his stories. I do read rather quickly and glaze over things, I do want to read every book ever written, so you tend to miss the important stuff.

I'll have to add this new idea to the list, the Old Ones, even the Atlantean beings I guess, I hadn't even considered it. However, the reason I say future is because of Richard, I believe he doesn't age because he isn't born yet, and defeats the 'Grandfather paradox'. But, that's just my toe.... I mean idea.

PM me your address, I get that toe right out...LOL

By the way TriSmog, do you believe that the island itself is a being in some way, perhaps even Jacob himself?

I used to think that, but now I think Jacob was just a guy who developed such a strong link to the island that he is intertwined with it.
He may have been one of the Others or from D.I., or maybe (and this is some in-th-moment theorizing) Jacob is a historical figure that we just haven't been told about but that everyone on the island has heard of.
Like Moses for the Island, thats what I think Jacob is. Whether people are alive or not seems to have very little bearing on their ability to communicate.

I wonder if "We" are the aliens. Could mankind have created some sort of "floating island" in the distant future, which then got "LOST" in time, ending up in the 1980's; not quite a UFO, but containing futuristic technology hidden from us because we don't recognize it. Maybe it's been lost in the ancient world and turns up in mythology as Atlantis or Lemuria or Mu. Only in the 20th and 21st century do we have the technology to recognize what it is, and maybe even find it. In the ancient past, Greeks may have accidentally found it, experienced its unique powers and come away with fables that have lasted until now. It appears in our time, and we interpret it in a different way. It's possible that Richard Alpert is the only 23d or 24th century man who knows where it's popping up--and is interested as a scholar would be in how the Island has affected civilization in the eons that it's been floating in and out of our existence. Richard may be an archaeologist from the future sent here to figure out why Mankind brought itself to the brink of disaster. Maybe he's the last surviving human, trying to prevent an apocalyptic end of humanity. Maybe he's not human at all, and we're all interesting scientific specimens of an extinct race.

I see no evidence suggesting the island's technology was (or is yet to be?) constructed in the future. If that wheel was built by such an advanced civilization, then why was the room built out of boulders? Wouldn't it be more logical to say the technology was created earlier in the human time line, just simply based on what we've seen.
But I like the idea that the island has inspired myths and legends by jumping around in time. I just think that it originating in the future is a little too paradoxical for it to be what the creators are doing.

If there is a huge electromagnetic source (within? comprising? powering?) the Island, then maybe a previous set of humans populating the Island found it, and was able to use its power with a technology that they could understand during their time. Much like the Swan station, with its Star-Trek like "teleportation booth". All of these ages of human experience must approach this Island technology from their own point of view, according to how advanced they are in their own time. If an aborigone were to come upon it, he or she might utilize it by magical symbols, as seen upon Ben's stone doorway to Cereberus, or on the upright post in the frozen donkey wheel chamber. I think it all ties in well.

I've been saying that since the statue first appeared! I totally agree.
