Desmond David Hume
Desmond David Hume was the lone resident of the Swan at the time of the Flight 815 crash. He was discovered by Locke, Kate and Jack a month later after they had blown open Hatch. After his failed attempts to leave the Island, Desmond joined the camp of survivors. Following the destruction of the Swan, Desmond gained a mysterious ability to see flashes of the future, with which he predicted Charlie's imminent death.

a numbers theory
I noticed that there are six survivors and six numbers in the famous sequence. I don't really believe in coincidence related to this show, so I altered my original theory a little. What if the numbers are the end product of an equation developed using clues from the Valenzetti, which is in fact the final culmination of the DHARMA research?
I think we all have accepted that the research was about causality, and its relation to time travel. Perhaps DHARMA wanted to see how far they could take it, how much they could alter using their methods.
Causality is, in my opinion, the only important theme in the show. The island warps reality in many ways, yes, but the truth of cause and effect still exist. I believe that the ultimate goal of DHARMA was to develop some sort of number theory that could control the alterations they made using space/time experimentation.
Also, I thought: how cool would it be if the Oceanic six were sitting in seat numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42? Help me out, you attention-to-detail freaks. Who sat next to who, who saw who where on the plane pre-crash. Probably not, but maybe.

Hello Trismogistus and welcome to the forums! Hope you enjoy it here
It would be really cool if there was some match between seat numbers of the Oceanic 6 (minus Aaron of course!) and the mystery numbers of Valenzetti Equation..I'm afraid there isn't. Lostpedia has some info on who has sat where during the flight and looks like Kate's and Hurley's numbers don't match with any of those in the equation.
As for the relation between the numbers, Valenzetti equation and DI research, there are a couple of open threads with info and further speculation, like
4 8 15 16 23 42 - The Numbers
The Valenzetti Equation?
Please check them out and feel free to pick the discussion from any one of those you find interesting.
(closing this thread to avoid duplicate discussion)
