Maybe Libby, Boone and Charlie's death were the easiest for the O6 to lie about in a consistent way without having to worry over messing things up? Eko's death, not all the O6 people know as to why and how. Ana Lucia wasn't everyone's favorite, Shannon didn't really have anyone off the island who would wonder or question what happened to her..

Mentioning Charlie on the other hand would keep the press busy for some time (death of a semi-celebrity, shocking news recycled for DriveShaft fans) while it could also mean a way to honor his memory. He couldn't get a proper burial so the least they could do is verbal closure.

I think Libby is somehow more significant to the whole plot. I don't think we've seen the last of her.
How do you all think Sun explained her pregnancy if her husband "died in the crash?"

I think the reason they didn't give people who were still alive was because that, if those others popped up somehow, people would get suspicious.

So they just picked 3 people randomly that had died. I don't think there was much thought to it. And IMO those 3 were the most innocent and press-friendly people because they were pretty clean cut individuals (at least Boone and Libby), while Charlie was a celebrity. So yeah. I don't think these 3 have much to do with the plot.

I think they felt the need to include these 3 was because it's pretty improbable that all 5 of the people that got off the plane were able to survive. All of them? It's very doubtful.

I think Sun's pregnancy could be very easily explained by just saying she got pregnant just before they left Sydney... maybe she got pregnant while joining the mile high club. But the timeframe wouldn't be that different...

Maybe because too that Jack had a hand in treating Boone and Libby on the island and he let Charlie sacrifce himself for rescue and was a hero??

I'd have to say Boone, Charlie, Ana Lucia The Pilot.They all went from living to dead . . .No but, really. I think Sawyers changed the most. He cares about the people now and is is a team player.

Here's my guess.

Charlie was broadcast through a video feed in a communication with Penny just before he died.
Boone was talking through a 2-way radio to the survivors of the tail section just before he died.
I'm not sure off-hand with Libby, but I'm guessing there may have been a similar circumstance.

In the event any of those broadcasts were ever intercepted, it covers up their tracks by having already indicated those people had survived the crash but died afterwards.
