Paulo
Paulo was one of the middle section survivors of Flight 815. Before the crash, he and Nikki Fernandez murdered Howard L. Zukerman and stole his diamonds. They spent most of their time on the island searching for these diamonds to the exclusion of almost everything else. A bite from a Medusa spider induced a death-like paralysis in Paulo. He subsequently died as a result of being buried alive while paralized.

Clue that Michael and Jin Escaped the Freighter Explosion?
Maybe I haven't seen it posted yet, but has anyone else noted that this isn't the first time we've seen an exploding boat in a season finale, and who ended up in the water in season one? Michael, Jin and Sawyer.
I think it's not just an interesting coincidence that those same three also ended up in the water last night. Sawyer made it back to the island. Are the other two soon to follow?
We have one of the same basic questions we had at the end of season one: Will they survive, will they make it back to the island?
I think there's also another parallel. At the end of season one Michael lost Walt, and in this finale Sawyer and Jin each had someone taken away. Now we can look forward to the reunions of all three with their significant others somewhere in another life (i.e., end of season 5).
Hopefully Michael reunites with Walt after redeeming himself from his mistakes from the last time, and hopefully Sawyer and Jin don't shoot anybody (unless they deserve to be shot, of course).

^^ It is def. an interesting thought, that all 3 of them end up in the water again, but we know Michael is def. dead, no question about it. Christian said "you can go now michael." Michael had been trying to end his life, and now he has done what he needed to do, and the island allows him to finally die in a heroic way. I also think that Jin is most likely dead as well, but we can maybe come up with some theories on his escape. Perhaps he jumped off at the last second, I don't know. But, I would like to see him come through this alive, I just don't know if it will happen.

Do we know for sure Michael is dead? When Walt came to talk to Hurley he said he was pretecting everyone who didn't leave the island..Could Locke have told Hurley that Michael was still alive on the island?? Just a thought... i guess he could of lied also but i dont see Hurley doing that..

I did look like a pretty un-survivable explosion, but I also thought that about the hatch explosion and it didn't end up killing anyone.
Also, I think Michael was trying to kill himself only when he saw himself as a miserable human being who didn't deserve redemption, and didn't have a purpose. I think maybe his perception changed. Michael had found a purpose toward redemption--he was determined to sacrifice his life to save his old friends. I think Christian's message can be interpreted as "You've done all you can do, you've earned a second chance, now get the hell off the boat."
I don't know if the island really needs to communicate to Michael that he can now die. Mike didn't need that information, but he may have needed a prompting to drop one action and go on to another task, maybe. Perhaps the island has another job for him.
I had another interesting thought: Did Michael stay behind because he thought he couldn't be killed?
And we need to remember: If the island doesn't want you dead, I think it is powerful enough to save a character from anything.
