Desmond David Hume

Desmond David Hume was the lone resident of the Swan at the time of the Flight 815 crash. He was discovered by Locke, Kate and Jack a month later after they had blown open Hatch. After his failed attempts to leave the Island, Desmond joined the camp of survivors. Following the destruction of the Swan, Desmond gained a mysterious ability to see flashes of the future, with which he predicted Charlie's imminent death.

This is a very good question. Could it be that the vault was built on/ carried to that specific location after Widmore or his people attempted altering the island's location in space-time? You know, to avoid further access there after some terrible incident? Does the lay out/ set up of the Orchid station in Halliwax video match with they way it looked when Ben took Locke down there?

It makes sense thinking back didn't whitmore say to ben everything you have you got from me boy or something like that.

i may be wrong here but here it goes...
isn't Whitmore trying to get to the island... as in, get to/on it beause he knows its power and wants to exploit it?
well i thought ben said something like "whoever moves the island, cannot return"
so if Whitmore has moved the island before, he wont be able to go to the island will he .... on the other hand .. that may be the reason why he isnt on the freigher

Widmore probably was on the original Dharma Initiative project, so he knows about all these things, he may as well have financed it.

I think what they mean by not returning to the island is that the one who moves it is sent to another time and place(Ben was sent 10 months to the future and Tunisia). So the island has been moved somewhere unknown, and the person that moved it has been sent somewhere totally different. Now just like any other person has no idea where the island is...

I agree. It's gotta be some science-logic related reason around space-time shift rather than some spiritual/ mystical rule or convention. Requires a lot of cross-disciplinary research and investment that Widemore seems to have the means for..not to mention his will
