Exclamation Estranged Relationships with Fathers a Common Theme??

Has anybody noticed that many of the characters have in common bad or estranged relationships with their fathers?

-Ben: blamed by his father for his mother's death; he later kills him
-Locke: bad relationship with father
-Kate: kills her father
-Penny: bad relationship with father
-Sun: bad relationship with father
-Jack: bad relationship with father
-Walt: resents his father
-Sawyer: As a child his father killed his mother & himself (murder-suicide)
-Hurley: Father walked out on him when he was a young boy
-Alex: Strained relationship w/Ben (believed not to be her biological father)
-Claire: not raised by her father, but he later appears mysteriously

Coincidence?

You could include Jin's resentment of his father for his occupation/class.

There may be a reason or it may just be, well because. If you look at alot of literature and fiction, bad relationships with fathers DO show up alot. Though I will admit, it does seem like an awful lot. It may just be a message that they're trying to tell us... or part of the story. But it being part of the story does seem unlikely.

I think estranged relationships are also common with mothers.

Kate - her mom turned her in.
Jack - his mom blamed him for Christian running off to Austrailia.
Claire - had a fight with her mom, before the car accident.
Sun - Jin's mother tried to blackmail her.
Hurley- constantly felt like he couldn't meet his mother's approval.
Shannon- rivalry with her step-mother.
Ben - never got to know his mother/ always had mother/female issues as a result.
Alex - didn't meet her mother until she was a teenager.
Ana Lucia - worked for her mother, and always wanted to do things independently and not always need her mother's consent.

^^ It was in one of Sun's flashbacks. Jin's mom was a prostitute and she blackmailed Sun for money. Sun got the money from her father in order to spare Jin that shame, and that is when her father said that Jin would now work for him.

To me the bad relationships with parents syndrom is just to point out how all the survivors of the plane crash would actually be better off just staying on the island where they are happy, where they are needed and wanted and free. As opposed to back in the 'real world' where they obviously aren't as happy or needed by their family/friends. *Shrugs*
