Paulo

Paulo was one of the middle section survivors of Flight 815. Before the crash, he and Nikki Fernandez murdered Howard L. Zukerman and stole his diamonds. They spent most of their time on the island searching for these diamonds to the exclusion of almost everything else. A bite from a Medusa spider induced a death-like paralysis in Paulo. He subsequently died as a result of being buried alive while paralized.

Thank you for the rant...in my weasely way I actually agree with the part about leadership. But in this next season, I can't wait to see how our John Boy does as a leader. He led a successful pig hunt, though. And his wise insights have helped many Losties (Michael, Walt, Boone, Kate...on and on). But this kind of insight...I don't know if it really makes for a true leader like Jack is. Sometimes I think a true leader benefits from a slight lack of imagination. Too much empathy and breadth of vision can confuse one and prevent focused action.

Default John as the Man of Faith

John is the man of faith. That is how he has been described several times on the official podcast. In the classic archetype the MOF must be tested, doubt his faith, regain his faith, redeem himself for his folly, and sacrifice himself for what he believes in. I think we are at the point where John has regained his faith. When we see him in the coffin we have evidence of his coming sacrifice. I can't wait to see what happens between here and there. That is where John Locke will come into his own.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. If you have ever seen the article Jack read on the Oceanic flight when he learned that Locke was dead, it was describing how the individual was found hanged in an apartment. It's possible he was killed, but equally or more likely that he took his own life, out of despair?

I think we will have to wait and see, but I wouldn't assume that Locke will come into his own, he is a tragic character and may be fated to fail again and again, and ultimately succumb to his failure.

Locke was in the coffin and the newpaper article said he hanged himself but he was under a different name, so the whole "hanging" thing could be staged, or manipulated by Ben. I'll bet Ben brought Locke's body with him to LA, from the island, just to get Jack to agree to go back. Ben is a manipulator and everything he does has a reason!

I thought the original paper clipping from the end of season 3 also said something to the effect of a teenage son left behind, I will double check to see if I am mistaken!
