Dr. Juliet Burke
Dr. Juliet Burke (née Carlson) is a member of the Others. She seems unhappy with her allegiance (particularly, it seems, with Ben's position of authority), and lives at the Barracks. Juliet is a calm, intelligent woman with a background in medicine, but unhappy with her private life and will do anything to get off the Island. However, it seems Juliet has betrayed her people and joined the survivors in wanting off the island.

Yeah, I've been wondering about Bakunin myself. He'd be the perfect man for the job. He's got military experience, he's been Ben's communications guy etc. He'd know his way to get around a freighter to accomplish a spying mission.

Blueshirt brought up the possibility that Harper (when she contacted Juliet in the jungle) was actually the smoke monster. That's an interesting idea, but I don't think it fits w. the smoke monster pattern we've already seen.
In the past (we THINK) the smoke monster has taken the form of different dead minor characters in order to affect the lives of living main characters. For example:
1.) The smoke monster became Jack's father, when it had a message for Jack.
2.) The smoke monster became Dave, when it had a message for Hurley. (Dave never actually died because he was imaginary, but Hurley believed he "killed" Dave when he locked Dave out of Santa Rosa Mental Hospital.)
3.) The smoke monster became Charlie, when it had a message for Hurley.
4.) The smoke monster took over Sawyer's body and spoke as Wayne, when it had a message for Kate.
5.) The smoke monster took over a boar's body and behaved as Frank Duckett, when it had a message for Sawyer.
Why would the smoke monster become Harper in order to deliver a message to Juliet? It doesn't fit the pattern. Harper isn't dead and Harper meant nothing to Juliet. Professionally. Juliet thought Harper was a joke and personally Juliet had no respect for her either. (Juliet didn't stop seeing Goodwin when Harper warned her not to.) Smokey should have taken the form of a dead character really significant in Juliet's life. To me that means Goodwin, Dr. Burke--Juliet's dead (bus-flattened) ex-husband, or possibly one of the dead pregnant Other women.
Not saying that Harper WASN'T actually the smoke monster at that moment in the jungle, just that it seems an odd/poor choice for Smokey to make if it really sought to manipulate Juliet.
Thoughts?

It seems to me a number of these people had some reason to feel guilt towards whatever form Smokey took for them. Jack confronting his father led to his death. Hurley "killed" Dave. Perhaps he feels guilty about not being there with Charlie when he died. Obviously, Wayne and Duckett were murdered. Juliet ruined Harper's marriage and killed her husband.
The only problem I can see is that the boat is outside of the influence of the island as far as we know. Teleportation seems like it could explain things too, but there seems to be something going on plotwise with the smoke monster since it was mentioned recently. The whispers in the woods during the Harper seen suggest something odd is going on. Maybe it's a red herring?
