Yeah, I don't know, now that I've had time to let "Time Loop Theory" swirl in my semi concious, I must retort. The theory is just complicated enough to award merit, but I think the anamolies not mentioned hold as much weight to the riddle of the show as the points that were made. Why is Ben perplexed that someone else can see Jacob and now obviously the whole damn shack. Why is he confounded, as the view showed us, when Hurley mentions having seen the cabin. Yes, I know, time suspension and half dead people, but for a whole cabin, to faze in and out because of a time machine is one angle, but while we are into theoretical physics, we might as well mention that multiple universes is more widely accepted in theoretical physics than time travel. If Desmond shot back in time, why would he not remember anything right away.
A Metaphysic of the Forces of Nature in Multiple Dimensions
It's a long article, and totally theoretical, but it cites the great minds... basically it is saying that as the universe first blew out from the big bang, it created waves of energy at it's first few -nanoseconds(so small we couldn't think that slow), and on those rings of frequency (like ripples on the water) were where life.. matter and gases.. whatever, formed upon. Thats why it seems the universe is expanding, it is, because it's an eternal shockwave. We are it's remnants. But, there are bubbles, tears in the fabric of spacetime, which is the connection, or tear, between these almost exact rings living nanoseconds apart.. in space/time speak. Dharma, and whatever its backers, have discovered a way to manipulate a doorway between. (also see page Aldo was reading in 'A brief History of Time')
The island is a tiny spot between those doorways to each frequency of life, but just as important, for a tear cannot become a full fledged hole. Dharma's equipment just enhances the islands already powerful properties, tried to synthesize the frequency themself to insert people from different frequencies into others and have been succesful. Here, the backers, Hanso, Paik, Widmore, make immense amount of money selling new technology to other people. Who has ever realy heard of a sonic fence. The black smoke monster is probaby a technology so far advanced we can't comprehend. This is why Ben says the SWAN is a joke, because it is only equipment that would enhance the electromagnetism of the island and every 108 minutes allow it to pull things near the island in, hence, the pallet drop. That is all the swan did, pull in pallets, that is why Richard is concerned because of no more food, they wanted those pallets. But Ben knew the place was needed but dangerous at the same time, and let fate decide to blow up the SWAN, instead of not entering the numbers in 'Lockedown', he couldn't bring himself to do it. That's why the Swan would self destruct after 108 minutes... once no more pallet drops, no ue for the swan, since it can't support life. The flash afterward was a signal to the worlds outside the island... hey, Swan is down. Penny learns this, but is way behind. Dharma has heard the call of the SWAN explosion and gathered a team. To us, it's about 90 days, to the people of that frequency, it may have 60.
The Flame was a cover for the Looking Glass. To observers, the satelite dish looks like the communication device, and to people who are needed to believe they are on an island it seems that is used to send and recieve messages from home. Semi proof... mikhail tinkered with everything, but doesn't seem interested in working on the Sat dish at the flame. It never worked, communication to the outlying worlds is done from the Looking Glass and sent via the underground cable to the Flame. Bonnie knew of one frequency, the good vibration, to talk to the one friendly world of Ben Linus now, or Dharma back then....
Speaking of past, the four toed statue is shown to let us know the existence of this frequency bubble. the island has been around or has seen many from different frequencis for a long while.. and the statue is not meant to spark theories of who they were, it's probably irrelevant.
tired now... please tell me if you'd like to read part two, where i explain exactly why Walt... and i'm betting more, are special. Hurley is definately special... AND why it SEEMS to be a loop, but why Backgammon tells its not.
