 Paulo
Paulo was one of the middle section survivors of Flight 815. Before the crash, he and Nikki Fernandez murdered Howard L. Zukerman and stole his diamonds. They spent most of their time on the island searching for these diamonds to the exclusion of almost everything else. A bite from a Medusa spider induced a death-like paralysis in Paulo. He subsequently died as a result of being buried alive while paralized.

Abaddon + saint/demon connection?
I like your ideas, styler. They make sense.
All Kate's aliases are saints. Charley and Eko were both devout Catholics. Hurley and Claire appeared as saints in Charlie's dream. It's been a pattern, so I think we should pay attention to saint references in Lost.
Michael Abaddon = Michael "a bad one"? Also, Michael was a Catholic saint. Maybe a clue that this Michael is the opposite of a saint: a demon? Saints deliver messages and warnings, that could mean this guy delivers lies and temptations. He definitely temps Hurley to leave Santa Rosa.
That's probably too easy, but I laughed when I thought of it, so I thought I'd share.

Think about it:
Hurley - To win the lottery
Jack - To save his (future/ex) wife
Locke - To walk again/know his father
Sawyer - To find the real Sawyer
Kate - To avoid life in jail
I'm betting you could come up with something for each character.
So, did the Losties forget they had sold their souls (a la Mickey Rourke's character in Angel Heart) and were brought to the island to "remember?"
Or brought to the island to be saved/redeemed?
This would offer a possible explanation for Abbaddon's wanting to find Hurley (and likely the rest of the Oceanic Six), and could also be an explanation for why they now want to go back.
Maybe Charlie redeemed himself and is now an angel, trying to protect Hurley and the rest of the Six?
Just some thoughts... comments?
