Should'nt the real question be how did SHE get THAT frequency? It sounds like the Others had not been blocking the signal for very long. So would Ms. Witmore have been able to the Others by just "hoping" to find the correct frequency?

Sure was sad though. When she said, "Did you just say Desmond?"

This is in the theories section. You make a good theory. But I'm pretty sure that if it wasn't for the signal blockers she would already be at the island. Who knows?

i think that once charlie stopped the jamming signal, then danielle's french message was able to transmit and then penny was responding to it and that's when it popped up on the screen in front of charlie. my theory. yes it happened very quickly but...well, poetic license?

Maybe they identified it from the Arctic station incident.

maybe she was scanning frequencies much like a handheld walkie talkie does on the channels; when it picks one up, it stays on the channel

Maybe she was just scanning the FM dial and heard a WLOST radio announcement. Aren't Charlie and Hurley "The AM Zoo Crew"?

Here's a possibility. We know that Penny and her father are rich business owners. Maybe the Dharma project was either started or funded by Penny's father. So when the signal jammer was turned off, it re-established a direct connection to Penny's father ( now hers) office. The reason why she was able to respond so quickly is because of the electromagnetic pulse picked up at the artic station. (Side note: Hurley paints a picture of an eskimo and an igloo which could mean that the station is one of the reason why they are recsued) She probably scanned all frequencies and had an open channel on all of them. She thinks that Dharma island was abandoned but Desmond could of found his way there and figure out how to get a message to her. This is why food is continually delivered to the island also. She hopes he gets there and has enough food to eat

She already knows about the island because of her dad and has somehow figured out that he set up desmond to put him there, he obviously would know what frequency to get the island on and she somehow got the info. but with the blocking going on and the island being cloaked she could niether get there or contact the island, but she constantly had a frequency open and had those guys watching for any activity around where the island should be, so thats how she instantly appeared to Charlie. Just my theory.
