Another "crazy" Theory

I usually avoid theory threads like the plague. My reason? Well I read the first couple of sentences of someones theory and its usually about time travel, parallel universes, twins, clones, aliens blah blah blah. And I wonder, did the author of the theory even bother to read/listen to interviews with the show creators and find out what ideas have been officially ruled out?
More often than not it just seems like these theory people just watch the show and dream up an explanation. Some times they have some really cool ideas and don't get me wrong I am not trying to put down anyones idea. I just think they should do a little research first.
Ok so with that out of the way here is my little theory.

The show is about fate and destiny vs free will.
Everything else is just window dressing.
There is a mysterious island that has a long history of inhabitants.
A secret? organization called DHARMA that has a seemingly harmless agenda of trying to benefit mankind through science and pseudo science, and possible has some other more mysterious hidden agenda.
The strange band of others who have ties to DHARMA and use their buildings and equipment, but have their own equally mysterious agendas.
A plane load of misfits from a wide variety of social, ethical, and economic backgrounds crash on the island and the fun begins.
Thats it.
The show is about the characters. Who they are. Who they could be. and the choices they make along the way.
In short the show is an analogy about life. Your life, my life.
Well thats the way I see it. All the unanswered questions are just fuel for the fire. It is what keeps us fans interested and wanting more.
In the end it doesn't really matter if smokey is a ghost, nanomachines, or whatever. What is really important is how all the characters we love and hate deal with the mysterious LOsT universe.

No offense, but I figured this was what the show has been about all along. It's kind of obvious, but stated like you've said it, this show is like every other show ever made. This website is all about the window dressing, which is why it's more fun to visit the general and theory sections rather that the character section.

The problem with this just being about the characters is... they don't really seem to be acting like people who are lost on a mysterious island. The only character that seems real, as if he was really apart of the situation, is Locke. (and of course the fact that no other boat or plane has ever been within earshot of the island)

Don't get me wrong, I totally understand how you feel, and this show is all about the characters and their relationships, but please don't bring me down by introducing reality into my fun little get-away-from-life that is Losttalk.net. Geez, what a downer.

Your gonna love Cloverfield. Thats exactly what its like. Its about the characters and the other mysteries don't matter.

That was a better review for cloverfield then LOST. Because LOST has answers and isn't just about the characters. It's also about the island.

sorry didn't intend it to be a downer. I love trying to figure out whats going on that crazy little island. but most of the theories I read bring me down....

I think they go to a lot of trouble to show all of the subtle coincidences for it all not to be connected to the story in some way. I don't think any of the answers will be given until the very end. At least I hope it's that way.
