Default Jack - A Man of Faith?

Just something I noticed - Just before Jack was about to jump off the bridge, he looked in the air and says "forgive me".

Does anyone else think this is strange coming from the "man of science"???

Possibly the horrible events that occured to Jack after leaving the island (deaths from the "sickness" that Rousseau spoke of?, or just the realization that they were not meant to leave and that the future wa negatively affected by their leaving) and the eventual revelation by the Others of their REAL PURPOSE on the island (to ensure that God's plan is followed???) and of the history and supernatural aspects of the island made him a believer? Ben keeps calling his group "the good guys." Maybe they really are and they have to go to drastic lenghts to protect something very important. Who knows?

I think we will see Jack turn more towards faith in the coming seasons. Ben always implores Jack to trust him, Locke as well, hopefully he puts his faith in something, or he will eventually find the bad end of that bridge... good post

Perhaps he wasn't necessarily talking to God. Maybe he was addressing his deceased father. But ya never know.

I will be very surprised if we ever look back and say, "Boy, I bet Jack wishes he would have trusted and listened to Ben."

Ben killed his father and all the people he knew. If Jack is, or becomes, a man of Faith it will be a process. I do not think you are born one way or the other. As some people think; that if you are smart, you are a person of science, or if you have Faith you have no place for logic or reason.

Most of the great men of Science and Faith have been beleivers in God. Rene Descartes, who said, "I think, therefore I Am." Was one of the smartest men ever and a great man of Faith.

I think that to say that men of Faith cannot be men of science is a unfair and forced seperation.

He also said to Kate at the end, that every bump on his flights he felt, he 'prayed' the plane would crash.

Well, you know they say that there are no atheists in foxholes. Maybe the fact that Jack has become a man of faith shows just how desperate he has become post-rescue. I'm not saying that the change is a bad thing, but clearly something pretty devastating would have to happen for that change to occur.

I am wondering if Jack is living some "double timeline" thing like Roland did after Jake died in the Stephen King Dark Tower Series' first book, or some weird time lag in "The Langoliers"? And that is the reason why his father could be both dead and alive at the same time, and also why Jack appears to be going crazy.

Wink

Jack is who he is....whether he be a man of science or a man of faith has no importance. What is important though is at the end of the day or at the end of your road so to speak all of us will be people of faith. It just is....at the end we always turn to God for answers, for reasoning for everything and so i dont think it was in any way strange of him to look up and say "Please forgive me" It's just a natural human thing we all end up doing regardless what we believe in.

I think Jack's character is very complex but all in all he is a Good Man/Hero whatever you may want to call him. He may at times come off as having a superiority complex but that is only because his father always made him feel less than what he was and so in turn he always had to prove something to him and maybe to himself. His character is very passionate and compelling. I love to watch him act. I enjoy all the characters but Jack just brings something special to the show and i enjoy that.
:grin

I think they will all find faith in their own ways at the end. Each one being their own and unique in that.

Does actually being a man of faith means you believe in God? Because Lost hasn't been that much about religion actually, except for Eko.
I don't think Jack is that religious now he says "forgive me" to God.
