Johnathan "John" Locke
Johnathan "John" Locke is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. His paralysis was immediately healed upon crashing on the Island, which has ultimately led him to believe he has some sort of special connection to the Island. He is sometimes shown in antithesis to Benjamin Linus, sharing several traits including the ability to commune with Jacob. Seen as antithetical to Jack Shephard, he and Jack are philosophical opposites and used to share leadership among the survivors, but now seems to be creating his own agenda for his actions on the Island and has broken off from the survivors.

2 theories from my stupid head
ok, ive never seen anything from season 3(except when kate and sawyer get it on in a cage ) so please correct me if, in some point in time, they've proven me wrong.
1. i think everyone is a number. i think kate is number 23. i couldnt figure anymore out, but if you watch the show they all mention a diffrent number. kate hears hurley mumbling the numbers and says, 'did you say 23?' hes nods and says, 'does that number mean something to you?' she says, 'the guy who turned me in to the cops, he got a reward of $23,000. ' so maybe they all have a number. i dunno what it could mean, but maybe they do.
2. i dunno if you could count this as a theory, and i know i already posted this on a different account, but has anyone added up the numbers? you get 108. the number of minutes you have to type the code and push the execute button. maybe the computer is like a giant freakin calculator or something.
what do you think?

You are not the only one who thinks everything (or everyone) is a number. Maybe you've heard of him - Pythagoras! We do know that Pythagoras and his students believed that everything was related to mathematics and that numbers were the ultimate reality and, through mathematics, everything could be predicted and measured in rhythmic patterns or cycles. According to Iamblichus, Pythagoras once said that "number is the ruler of forms and ideas and the cause of gods and demons." So that isn't such a crazy or far-fetched idea after all given that in the Lost Experience they talk about the Valenzetti Equation and the destruction of mankind, and how one of the purposes for the Dharma Initiative was to try and alter the equation to stop the destruction.

Skate, your observations are spot on. For one thing, I noticed in the episode with Hurley and "Dave" in the mental hospital, Dave said something about Leonard (the numbers nut) and that he would "call you (Hurley) a 42 or something". This suggested that the individual could be so assigned a number.
As a student of numerology, I can see how this relates, and as Steph points out the Valenzetti Equation is also a prominent part of the mythos of LOST.
As for 108, that was discovered very shortly after the introduction of the computer and the code - a lot of sharp minds out there!

Why do you say that? If you got that impression from what Lizard or I were saying, go back and re-read our comments. I think we liked your ideas.
