Hugo "Hurley" Reyes

Hugo "Hurley" Reyes is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Hurley's father disappeared when he was at a young age for almost 17 years. Afterwards, Hurley suffered an eating-disorder and after a traumatic accident he was sent to a mental asylum when he started seeing an imaginary person. Ever since, he has changed and has been extremely concious of his sanity and how people view him. When Hurley won the lottery, he was not overjoyed, instead he was fearful that his life was going to change. Hurley is typically happy-go-lucky and keeps the spirits of his fellow survivors up. He has an eating disorder but has managed to overcome that with the help of Libby, and has even stuck to it after her death. He is also the voice of reason in the group, and uses his common sense to solve difficult situations. Ever since winning the lottery with the mysterious numbers, he has searched for an answer for the curse of bad luck that supposedly plagues him.

Default The Dark Tower

Submitted for your consideration:

TheDarkTower.net | TowerWiki - Strangers And Flipping

Not long ago I read The Talisman by Stephen King & Peter Straub, and it now stands as one of my favorite Stephen King books. It has been alluded to that both The Talisman and The Dark Tower series have connections to Lost. I'm not here to debate the exact way that they intertwine, but I found this article interesting.

So, could this special group of people on the Island have come together in a sense through a dimensional rip? Could the Island be somehow a condensed version of the entire world? Could small things that happen on the Island have dramatic larger consequences back in our reality? I'll be interested to hear your thoughts!

I no King fan . I saw the DT ref and thought of Tolkien ..then found this about CS Lewis

Saurons tower was called the DT

the Time travel thing is very popular with many LOST fans

I am NOT convinced of TT on LOST
BuT all is possible

"chronoscope" and "dimensional rip?"

may be compatible

sounds very Bermuda triangle

The Dark Tower (1977 novel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

"The Dark Tower is a textual fragment attributed to C. S. Lewis that appears to be the beginning of an abandoned science fiction novel intended as a sequel to Out of the Silent Planet. Perelandra instead became the second book of Lewis' Space Trilogy, concluded by That Hideous Strength. Walter Hooper, Lewis' literary executor, titled the fragment and published it in the 1977 collection The Dark Tower and Other Stories. Lewis scholar Kathryn Lindskoog has challenged the authenticity of the work. For convenience the author of the text is referred to in this article as "Lewis" without qualification.

The story deals with an early rendition of interdimensional travel. A fictional Lewis himself narrates, as he does in Perelandra, but Elwin Ransom appears as a supporting character. The story begins with a discussion of time travel among several academics at a university (subsequently identified as Cambridge) during summer vacation. They conclude that it is impossible to violate the laws of space-time in such a way. However, after the discussion, one of the men (Orfieu) unveils an invention he believes allows people to see through time. The group uses this "chronoscope" to observe an alien world they call "Othertime" (he does not know if it is future or past), where a group of human automatons work to construct a tower at the bidding of the story's villain, the Unicorn, a devilish character with a single horn growing out of his forehead. The Unicorn stings people, apparently volunteers, causing them to become automatons (the "Jerkies").

After a while MacPhee, a character who appears in That Hideous Strength, points out that the "Dark Tower" is in fact a replica of the new Cambridge University Library. This suggests Othertime is the far future, with a replica of an ancient monument being constructed.

It is discovered that Orfieu's assistant, Scudamour, has a double in Othertime. Increasingly, the observers wonder if Othertime really is the past or future, or whether it is some other reality. Scudamour's double grows a sting and becomes the new Unicorn. During one viewing session, Scudamour sees the Unicorn about to sting the double of his fiancee, Camilla. In a blind fury, he rushes at the screen, and somehow switches bodies with the Unicorn. The remainder of the text deals with his experiences in Othertime, as well as his colleagues' attempt to hunt down the Unicorn in this world."

I found something on another site that's quite amazing and it has to do with a book:

In the Season 3 finale the name of the funeral parlour is Hoffs/Drawlar. This is an anagram of Flash/Forward.

Flash Forward is the name of a real sci-fi book by an author named… Sawyer.

Sound familiar?

In the book a group of scientists ‘push a button’ and a huge machine causes a time rift throughout Earth. They have a consciousness shift and see their own future, allowing them to attempt to change it.

Sound familiar?

The book contains a few more clues which I won’t spoil for you here, but anyone into Lost may be interested in giving it a read.

See the book here: Amazon.com: Flashforward: Books: Robert J. Sawyer

LOST-Theories.com: It's all based on this book

Fido good add-on

Time Tunnel was a series in the 60s I recentyl bought some of the old episodes .
Pretty good

Again I am NOT a big time space guy regarding LOST!

The writers of LOST seem very well rounded in literature, TV ,movies ,old serials, philosophy ect..

and I think the BIG BRO theme..oceanic sounds alot like oceana from 1984

The Time Tunnel

""Two American scientists are lost in the swirling maze of past and future ages during the first experiment of America's greatest and most secret project—The Time Tunnel. Tony Newman and Doug Phillips now tumble helplessly toward a new fantastic adventure somewhere along the infinite corridors of time."

As a great lover and admirer of Clive Staples Lewis I just want to put out as a caution anything that Walter Hooper claims to be from C.S. Lewis. There is HUGE controversy about Hooper and his claims to things that are "original" Lewis material vs. speculation that Hooper himself wrote it and tried to pass it off as Lewis's unpublished works.

The Saruman's Tower - That's a pretty cool image.

Not that Lost is an exact interpretation of the Dark Tower series, it must have been used in the framework while building the story of Lost, as well as many other works. There are just too many themes running through each story. Search 'A Brief History of the Crimson King' in theories and you'l see an earlier thread of such coincidences. The person who wrote that theory, I understand, is a MAD genius.

and great stuff Dbeach... and Morgan from the clip of the story, sounds plausible for a 'Jacob'

"There are just too many themes running through each story"

EXACTLY

The writers /producers ahve borrowed from many of my fave stories

Penelope was the wife of brave Ulyses who waited for him

I look for Des to be a big Hero and return to her.

Dharma was working on para normal stuff that opens stories from everything from TT to ghosts to aliens

Now that Juliet half jokingly said aliens to Sawyer as they went for the non-existant gun..

My wish is that LOST does NOT become some Independece Day goes Hawaiian

We DONT need the aliens to show up as goodies or baddies

There is plenty as LOST is now
