I think I figured it out!

For any of you that are obsessed with LOST and followed the "LOST Experience" you know what the numbers represent. For those of you who don't, they represent the core values of certain things that predict the exact months and years until human extinction. The Dharma Initiative went to the island to do experiments and try to break one of the core values. These guys were trying to see how we were going to kill ourselves in the end. My theory is that some experiment they were doing which was a major breakthrough went terribly wrong and killed many people. BUT it opened the island up to a whole new front. We always hear John Locke say "I'm supposed to do this. It's my destiny. Or You have to do this." He is saying that we all have a path in life and even if we try to change it, the universe has a way of course correcting things. Now that brings us to Desmond and the Charlie issue. Back in "Flashes Before Your Eyes" Desmond is told he cannot buy the ring because he's not supposed to! He has his own path to the island and if he doesn't go there, everyone dies. Now Desmond tells Charlie numerous times hes gonna die and saves him until Charlie finally accepts it. What i'm finally getting to here is that EVERYONE HAS A CERTAIN PATH THEY FOLLOW. By a series of a events one way or another things will fall in place and that persons destiny will happen just as it was supposed to. For example, if some one told me that I was going to die tomorrow in a car accident would i go driving the next day. NO! But if i didn't die then some thing else would happen. Think of it as a grand plan and our friends like the Dharma Initiative broke the laws of science and figured out a way to see people's futures. They could see what's going to happen. And after the Initiative died off, the Others took over and here we are now. Now the other questions of why the four toed statue, and the black rock etc. My answer is simple. T-I-M-E!! The big theme behind this show is time travel or some thing of that sort. It's gotta be....

I like it, but then I like a lot of the crazier theories. Time travel is obviously shaping up to be a factor in the resolution of this story, but just how deep does the rabbit hole go, d'you suppose?

well it did say spoilers...

youre right though, i think. member back in season 1, john has a flashback and it shows him sitting at a table with emily locke. she says, 'john, your very special. your part of a design, you do realize that dont you?'

maybe she knew. and she was shown a little later, while boone was going 'teresa fall up the stairs', pointing to the beach craft crashing. i think she knew, that shes part of it.

time is very important in this show, but we still don't know how or why.

time doesn't travel for people on the island. some don't grow old, some don't grow beards, some don't need haircuts and some don't even lose weight or gain weight. yet, if they get hurt they heal quickly and if they have a disease they are cured (sometimes).

but i don't know, if you look at the individual characters, some of these rules apply, but then some don't. it's hard to determine the rules

desmond does some time traveling, right? in episode 3 season 3, he talkes about the speech john made, then realizes he hasnt made it yet.
