My theory

Now that the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 are off the island, everyone is starting to die. Ben said that Jack was making a mistake and that every living person on the island would die if he made that call. Well, maybe everyone is dieing. The death that Jack attended was of someone from the island. He is so upset and depressed because he knew the decision he made to get everyone off the island is killing all the survivors. He feels responsible. Kate is in denial that this is true. Jack thinks if he takes everyone back to the island, he can still save people.

That is why Noami said they found the plane. The Island didn't want the suvivors to be looked for. It was their destiny to be on that island. And now that they are off, they are all dieing.

i see what your gettin at and i kinda agree with you, but if thats true im thinkin its less of them actually being killed because they arent on the island, and more of them dying because everyone dies, as it is the natural course of life and they will all die eventually. kinda like the island is their own paradise, their Garden of Eden, and once they left they cant go back. staying there would have saved them from the evils of their lives, possibly.

i think the funeral was for ben. after seeing it in the newspaper, jack knows that there is no chance to get back to the island without him. jack tries to commit suicide. he misses being a leader and being in charge, thats why he was pissed off at the new head surgeon dude.

Herojack - that is a very good theory ... I must agree with the fact that it would explain Jack's depression/addiction now that they are back , and also if true , waiting for his turn to die , kate's turn , etc......

actually that kinda makes sense, when ben said they were all going to die i thought he ment by some strange company storming the beach with guns and stuff.

But the theory about them saved by the island so they can have a second chance is good!!!

Ben was raised on the island as a kid, he's got no perspective and is crazy. (like a fox) He knows where they are, and thinks its paradise compared to where he was. All those people will eventually die when they leave the island because that's what people do (except here).

Ben = no real world experience and total fear of life outside the island. Will also say ANYTHING to keep his spot on the totem pole.

Who is the oldest person on the island? How much has the island helped them to survive? Assuming it is locke, it would explain why he can get shot and not die, as it was the island that was keeping him alive anyway.
