Nikki Fernandez
Nikki Fernandez was one of the middle section survivors from Flight 815 and is first introduced in "Further Instructions". She had spent most of her time on the island trying to recover the $8 million diamonds she and Paulo had stolen from Zukerman, her staged lover, before the crash. She received a Medusa spider bite that induced a deathlike paralysis and she died after being buried alive alongside Paulo.

Kate said the thing about "still rescuing people from burning wreckage" which is a reference to Jack saving people from the 815 crash - Future!

Hi, new here. Hope no one minds if I toss in my 2 cents.
It seemed clear to me that it was definately a flash-forward, but considering the show just renewed for 3 more seasons, I wouldn't expect them to actually get off the island any time soon. Jack refering to his father as if he was alive and well threw me for a bit of a loop, but Jack's reference to receiving a 'Golden Ticket' from the airline cinches the fact that it's after the island for me.
It's just my own personal theory, but I think it was like an alternate reality flash forward. We've seen characters fail to remain dead in this show (Mikhail seems to be relatively unkillable) so who knows, it's possible Jack's father was dead when they got on the plane and is alive after they are rescued somehow. I know it doesn't make sense, but Lost seldom does. Remember how in Season 1, Jack kept seeing his father on the island.... Hmmm....
In any event, it was an excellent season finale. A few questions answered, a few more raised. I am curious to see who's funeral Jack attended too. I was initially thinking it was Locke or Sawyers, but after reading some of your thoughts on here I could see how it could be Ben or Juliet too. Just because Kate had no interest in attending does not mean it wasn't anyone she's close to at this point in time. Being that it was in the future, any number of things could happen with Locke or Sawyer that would lead her to think unfavorably of them. (Plus, I don't think either of them would have a very large turnout at their funerals either considering the lack of family & friends.)
I realize it was his destiny, but why did Charlie have to die? That seemed totally pointless to me. Everything he needed to do was done already & then he just locked himself into the room that was about to flood. WTF? Why not just go on the other side of the door with Desmond & then lock it? Didn't make any sense to me.

well, how about this. there are certain people that need to be on the island. jack is one of them. when he left, he became an alcoholic, an oxycodone abuser, and somewhat depressed. kate on the other hand was lookin alright, driving a nice car, probably getting with sawyer. I mean, if you look at it, the island meant for some people to be there, and some people not to be there. when jack took them all off the island, he messed with the island's plans. Now he's depressed and suicidal. sounds like a good season! not. I didn't like the new emo-spiderman, why would i like the new emo-jack sheppard?

hey, i'm new here, nice to read everyone's thoughts. i don't think there's any doubt that this was a flash-forward, all the signs point to it. jack's comments about his dad...well, i chalk that up to the depression/booze/pills combo.
whether or not jack himself was actually seeing this in his head while on the island, or if the producers are simply showing us the future for the benefit of the viewer and future seasons is unknown, i think. and whether this was an alternate/possible reality, or the real future, will also be fleshed out, i'm sure. i have two competing theories on this, and i can't decide at this point which one holds more water:
1) this is a flash forward to a possible reality, and the rest of the show will also feature flash forwards to possible realities, based on what's happening on the island, or
2) that was the actual future, and the rest of the series will consist of getting off the island, and dealing with being back in the real world, with the scenes from rest of the time on the island being the flashback parts.
i don't know, i'm torn.
anyway, that's all i got. oh, and i think it's definitely jacob in the coffin.

Hi, all, this is my first post. It's nice to be able to discuss the show with some fellow Lost nuts!
I agree with many of the theories posted above. I believe it was a flash forward, that the survivors have been rescued, and that they have fallen back into the same lives and problems they had escaped from when they were literally lost. Now they are once again figuratively lost.
Kate is still a fugitive. Somehow she eluded the law when she was rescued, or escaped again. Now she is living with someone abusive who knows her secret and is blackmailing her with the threat of turning her in. She still loves Jack, it seems to me by the tears she sheds at the end of their meeting. He loves her too, and is depressed because of the way things have turned out.
Maybe it is Sawyer who helped her escape/evade the law and is blackmailing her, or maybe it is someone else. Sawyer definitely loves her and definitely has the capability of hurting people, but at the same time he acted heroically and unselfishly toward her when they were on the island - she wanted to go back to the beach to rescue Sayid, Jin and the dentist but he wouldn't let her. So possibly it is him, or someone else.
I think the person in the casket is Ben. No one else from O-815 would care to honor his memory, but it seems Jack now knows why Ben was so driven to keep people from leaving the island.
Note that Jack's apartment was strewn with evidence that he was searching for location of the island and he can't seem to find it. The part of this I don't understand is that in today's GPS world, if a rescue ship was able to come for them then wouldn't its exact location be known? Maybe it moves, somehow, or its in another dimension. Remember the producers hinting that it is "somewhere in the space-time continuum"? A mystery for the future, I suppose.
Anyway, I thought it was a great last episode and leaves us feeling both that the tensions in the past of the show have finally been resolved and yet looking forward to new mysteries to be solved. Great job, Lost writers and producers!
