If that was a flash forward for Jack. It did not seem that Kate was that excited to see Jack. Jack never before liked being in the limelight. But now he cant stand that he is not even hardly recognized by the hospital and even Kate. Kate treats Jack as something that was in her past.

I wonder if with the flash forward--does Jack really know what is going on. At least with Desmond, he is conscious with his flash-forwards. Maybe when there is some connection with this phone signal. Maybe Jack will be put in a trance to see what his decisions will do to alter the lives of all that are on the island.

Maybe Ben has an idea of what this power can do. Remember the purge. Ben sees what power can do. He killed his own people. He cant even trust the Others. Why would he keep so many things secret. Does Richard have any power? Ben was just a kid when he met Richard. I wonder if he will have anything to do with this meeting of whatever this phone signal/connection to the outside world wil do.

i completely forgot about him mentioning his dad...that totally screws with the future stuff...maybe when they get rescued they go back to before the time they crash on the plane? like time is kinda rewinded. i could picture them waking up in a white out type scene, and all their lives are still messed up cuz they didnt go on the plane. maybe kates still with that abusive guy she killed and thats who she was talkin about?

I didnt' think Jack's father was alive in the future. I thought maybe Jack forged his dead father's prescription for oxycontin. Then again, why would he forge his father's prescription? Wouldn't the pharmacist think it was weird that he had the same name as the prescribing physician, as happened in this episode? Ok, I'm officiallly confused. Was there any other evidence in this episode that Christian Shepherd was still alive? Something I missed?

Maybe Hurley bought them all really nice cars once they got back to civilization.

I think that it's the future, that his father is dead, and that he was just to high on the pills to be coherent enough.

I'm pretty sure that when dealing with people in those situations it's not a good idea to tell the person that their delusions are incorrect... plus it wasn't really on the topic of what they were discussing. Or the doctor just didn't know about his father being dead? Jack did say the guy knew nothing about him.

I have to admit that ther person who pointed out the Jack's father info made a very good point. He was obviously forging his father's RX for the oxycodone, but if he was still alive, its obviously in the past.

After thinking about this for a few minutes, I went and rewatched the last scene with Jack and Kate (I love my TIVO). In their conversation he says "we never should have left" and "we have to go back", he never specifically says left where nor back to what (or where). He very definately DOES NOT say the word island.

On the other hand, they didn't know each other before the flight, or did they? Quite a quandry.

I think he was fully aware his father was dead when he forged that prescription, that's why he gave up when they said they were going to call... cause they'd just find out he was dead and that Jack was forging it.

Pretty sure they didn't know each other before the flight, that would have come out in the last three seasons, and there's no reason they'd talk to each other in the beginning like they don't know each other. I think the part where Kate appeared and he talked about going back was the cue that it was a flash forward.

Your perscription theory may be true, but dead or alive, it was obvious that jack wrote his own script, and didn't want it verified. It's the statement about "bring my father down here" that completely leads me to believe that it was a previous event.

Hm, so you really think it's more likely that Jack and Kate knew each other before landing on the island than that Jack was too high (or hey, maybe making a joke) to be aware that his father is dead?
