Hugo "Hurley" Reyes

Hugo "Hurley" Reyes is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Hurley's father disappeared when he was at a young age for almost 17 years. Afterwards, Hurley suffered an eating-disorder and after a traumatic accident he was sent to a mental asylum when he started seeing an imaginary person. Ever since, he has changed and has been extremely concious of his sanity and how people view him. When Hurley won the lottery, he was not overjoyed, instead he was fearful that his life was going to change. Hurley is typically happy-go-lucky and keeps the spirits of his fellow survivors up. He has an eating disorder but has managed to overcome that with the help of Libby, and has even stuck to it after her death. He is also the voice of reason in the group, and uses his common sense to solve difficult situations. Ever since winning the lottery with the mysterious numbers, he has searched for an answer for the curse of bad luck that supposedly plagues him.

I don't think time travel is the direction the directors are going in.

However, they've already gone in that direction, since Desmond appears to have traveled through time early last season, in Flashes Before Your Eyes. Maybe it was in his head, but I dunno...guy gets blasted with electromagnetism, seems to go back in time, is warned about altering time, returns to Island naked, unharmed, and precognitive...?

I think time travel is one of the cornerstones of what the show is about. There will be a couple of interesting revelations early in Season 4 that I hope will confirm this in some way, so I don't have to wonder if I'm crazy. Even if I already know I am!

yeah, Damon and Carlton have stated that time travel is and will continue to be a motif of the show. But it is important to realize that fate is also a big part of the mythology of the show. This is the lesson that Mrs. Hawking was trying to teach Desmond. There are events that are going to happen. Any attempt to prevent these events from happing will only postpone them for awhile not stop them from occuring. This relates directly to the Dharma Initiative. From what we know so far Dharma was trying to change the fate of humanity, but according to Mrs. Hawking if something is fated to happen than you cannot change it. So Dharma was always destined to fail. It is actually a very profound (and somewhat disturbing) concept.
So anyways time travel is a part of the show, but you have to understand that within the constraints of the show even time travel can not be used to change events that are fated to happen.

Side note:
Another clue that the creators of LOsT are not making it up as they go can be found in season one. Charlie writes FATE on the tape wrapped around his fingers.
Charlie is fated to die on the island.(or slightly offshore)
Desmond tries to change Charlie's fate.
The universe keeps "course correcting" to ensure Charlie's fate
Chalie excepts his fate and lets the universe take its course.

Still. We are not going to have our good buddy jack go save Charlie's life in deh past. Also Jacob=Locke from the future, Charlie=the guy who designed the code that was good vibrations, 2 dead body's (Adam and eve)=Rose and Bernard...umm well those are possible but I hope it won't be true. EVERYONE has predicted this. it will make LOST a predictable and rather boring show.

I'm not sure I completely follow what your saying here.
From what I understand by listening to Damon and Carlton time travel is a part of the show. And Desmond did actually travel back in time and relive apart of his life with Penny. The thing is though, Desmond didn't run into himself when he went back in time. So what I'm thinking is that while time travel is possible in the world of LOsT a person can only exist in one place in time. Going along this line of thinking Adam and Eve couldn't be Rose and Benard or anyone else on the island for that matter. Also Jacob can't be Locke from the future.
Jack could presumably go a couple weeks into the past and save Charlie, but the next day or next week Charlie would just die someother way.
And as far as Charlie being the guy who designed the code thing well...
no. Crash landing on the island was the first time Charlie has ever been there.

What if he was just imagining that and note time traveling? The entire time I thought it was all in his head then he wakes up and realizes he is still on the island and is all sad and stuff.

Also if you look at the picture of Jacob it IS Locke with hair. So it very possibly could be. Unless they just used that actor temporary.

This is from the pod-cast after Flashes before your eyes.. Official Lost Podcast transcript/February 20, 2007 - Lostpedia

__________________________________________________ __

Carlton Cuse: Uh -

Damon Lindelof: None, none, of this has anything to do with "Flashes - "

Carlton Cuse: Talk about -

Damon Lindelof: - "Before Your Eyes"

Carlton Cuse: So talk about Dam- uh Desmond's flashback, Damon. I can't say Damon and Desmond in the same sentence so. Did he really go back, or is that still questionable? What are the implications of his vision? And will he be able to harness this power?

Damon Lindelof: Yeah, I guess it wasn't really quite a flashback in the, in the conventional sense of the way that we do flashbacks on the show, you know, the reality of it is, this is more the experience that he had when he turned the fail safe key and obviously as evidenced by certain future memories that he's having during his flashback. Uh, for the first time in the history of the show we actually allowed a character to have an opportunity to make a different choice than they make before and, uh, Desmond doesn't. He is, he's, he, he is, he is course corrected by, by a certain mysterious, uh, older lady in a ring shop. So uh, uh what, what was your question?

Carlton Cuse: No, that was fine, that was -

Damon Lindelof: Does that cover it?

Carlton Cuse: When it comes to an answer, that pretty much covers it. Well, we're - I suppose people want to know what does this mean?

Damon Lindelof: Was it really - did it really happen?

Carlton Cuse: Yeah did it really happen?

Damon Lindelof: Uh, yeah! I think it really happened. I mean -

Carlton Cuse: I think it did to.

Damon Lindelof: You know, one of the things that we've tried very rarely to do on the show is to, to play something as only having been imagined or dreamed. And you know, I'd, I would, I would say that in the global sense of things, that Desmond, back in, you know back in the, the year 1996, actually had that experience. Now, I would venture to guess that in future flashbacks of Desmond's, that they would be, treated as traditional flashbacks where he doesn't really have any awareness of his destiny, but in this particular instance, uh, we went outside the box a little.

Carlton Cuse: Right, I mean I think it's, uh, it's entirely possible he can have a traditional flashback story as well.

Damon Lindelof: Absolutely, but I think what's interesting is there are, there are certain things that happen the way that they used to happen, that he changed as a result of being in the past, that might sort of resonate over time, you know. Like getting hit in the face, instead of the bartender, or the fact that the photograph of he and Penny got take uh - got, got taken the day that he broke up with her. Maybe, maybe in a, in another incarnation there were two photographs, you know. Maybe they, maybe they've, maybe there was a two for.

Carlton Cuse: You -

Damon Lindelof: That would explain how she got one.

Carlton Cuse: You seem a little somber today, maybe a little banjo music would cheer yuu up.

Damon Lindelof: (Laughs) Don't make me (Carlton laughs), don't make me ask you to play that banjo. (Laughs)

Carlton Cuse: Here we go!
