Smokey is the biggest. (2nd is how a large island can not be seen in a world of Google Earth, which found my grandma sunbathing in her yard)

we know from the writers that all of this can (supposedly) be explained scientifically, so I really want to know what the hell it is.

A couple of things about the smoke-dude:

1. Did you notice that he really didn't make an appearance in s2, and if he did, it was a guise or just not picked up.... but who else wasn't there.. Walt. Maybe the otheres had Walt control him during that time.

2. He tears the pilot from the cockpit before he tells more about the trip, kills Eko for not 'repenting' his sins, yet he just wanted to bring Locke down the vents with him for god knows what.. to play?
(I doubt the dinasour theory, Locke would have found tracks by now!)

3. the others don't mention it, or him or what, unless, he is their Jacob. Smoke-loc obviously studied the Losties, esp that first night when they were staring into the jungle after he was ripping up trees.

So I guess that is my theory, jacob is smokey, or vice versa. Maybe patchy is Jacob, controls smokey, the others are scared of patchy because he is gone insane, and wanted Walt to take over control of their beloved Cerberus.

Nice theory! I've been rewatching s1 and I don't think that it is a dinosaur....

I have a feeling that Ben may have something to do with Smokey too... The whole time he was held captive there was no sign of "the monster".

Although the idea that Jacob/Smokey/ and Patchy are all tied together seems possible...

Hopefully we can get some of our answers in 12 days!!!!

Wll I'm glad you got you're 200th on my theory, hopefully 500 will be the answer to it all.

And yes, Smokey didn't appear when Ben was 'Locked' down, but I really don't think if he made an appearance AT ALL in s2, except whn he took the form of Black Beauty!!!

Uh... well despite the raining and the other elements that would have covered up the tracks... I don't recall Any our our guys going back toward the nose of the plane At All since that episode. And during the episode... i think thier minds were a little more stunned at the man hanging in the tree...

if that is true then patchy keeps smokey in his eye hole.

Most of our cats were holed up in the hatch. noone was out and about to run into the smoke. And I still do not believe that the smokey can take form like BLACK BEAUTY or YEMI or anything. Good thoery. Not PROVEN!

As far as smokey goes, my theory is that the writers have just totally blown him off and he'll never be explain. Just like the numbers.
