Dr. Juliet Burke

Dr. Juliet Burke (née Carlson) is a member of the Others. She seems unhappy with her allegiance (particularly, it seems, with Ben's position of authority), and lives at the Barracks. Juliet is a calm, intelligent woman with a background in medicine, but unhappy with her private life and will do anything to get off the Island. However, it seems Juliet has betrayed her people and joined the survivors in wanting off the island.

But for the show that shouldn't have mattered. Why tie a sound effect to something in the show? Why write that into her script?

So if everyone on the island is Dead and this is pergatory... are we to assume the smoke may be keeping them there so they don't return to "life" I rememeber this was a theory about the show in the first season.

otherwise its a good thing to think about it in another sense. If hell were literally in the center of the earth ( or underground)... then smoke is trying to prevent our heroes from going underground and finding whetever it it, Smokey is gaurding.

Well, the purgatory/dead theory was already discredited by the writers of LOST, so I think that's unlikely. I think that Cerberus' task was to prevent people from leaving the Island when they weren't supposed/allowed to, or perhaps to keep the Dharma Initiative researchers from attempting to leave.

Whatever its original purpose, the Cerberus system was known to have malfunctioned a long time ago. It's important to note that Locke also saw a different version of Cerberus - a bright, white one. These may or may not be the same entity - it is either one creature with some kind of split personality disorder or it's twins (bad twin?), yin and yang seeking to bring balance to the Valenzetti Equation. Could the entire Island be all about the balance, an Other for every Lostie, twins not physically but good and evil people?

Who knows what the malfunction did to the Cerberus objectives? I also want to know, do we now think that the Whispers could be the work of the smoke, or is that something else entirely?

Regarding the sounds of chains clanking, it reminds me of Doctor Octopus' robotic arms in Spiderman 3.
I believe the "smoke" can make itself solid or gaseous at will - it would have to in order to toss Eko around the way it did.

First of all, You are impressing the hell out of me. I am blown away. The only thing I have to add is that if there is a CV near the Swan sation I would be willing to bet that the black horse Kate and Sawyer saw came from there. The idea of the gaurdian to the gates of hell makes me think of Saint Peter at the golden gates. Same basic job. Who gets in and who is turned away. Mr. Eko refused to confess and was taken. It's allot to think about.

Good work people. Very impressed. I believe Rose said that the monster sounded familiar because if you listen closley, you can here the Smokey/Cerberus noise as the plane starts to go down. Don't mean to make you all go back and watch the pilot again, but its there.

Thanks cd14, that's kinda what I was looking for, an in-show explanation of why Rose would say that. I thought that noise was just the plane breaking apart, but you believe it was the Cerberus noise?

Haha, together we'll deduce the secrets of LOST before the scriptwriters do!

I'm still intrigued by the full map on the LOST Season 2 DVD. On the Special Features Disk it has a commentary about The Swan, and during that commentary they discuss the map. They also show a full version of the map.

If you look at any screenshots of the map you'll notice that the top part is missing, yet on the full map that is on the DVD there is more text, with a large scribbled out section about The Arrow.

If we could get our hands on a high resolution screenshot of the full map, we'd be able to learn even more from it.

Wander - when I'm looking at the map ther are faint lines drawn between the Arrow to Pearl, Arrow to Flame, Arrow to Staff; Flame to Swan; Swan to Pearl; Mystery station in upper right corner to Pearl, and mystery station to Swan. What to you think those represent? What do you think of the idea of an underground transportation line; a subway, if you will to explain the squealing, mechanical noises we sometimes here. Also what do you think the the two stations that are drawn with dashed lines represent? I am full of questions. Sorry!

Why The Pearl does not have a link to C4 on the map is unknown). This could mean that the Dharmatel was perhaps used to transmit live video feed, or to allow communication through the computers.
- basically I think that it is more likely that the faint lines represent the links of the Dharmatel intranet links. From those lines, it is possible to assume that the Dharmatel intranet is a partially connected mesh network, which would make sense since the Dharma Initiative wouldn't want some stations to have any ability to communicate with eachother at all. But that's my opinion, I could easily be wrong.

As for the stations that are drawn with dashed lines, I reckon that they are drawn in this way because they are only estimated locations - in the outlines of the stations in question, the initials "C3" and "C4" are given with a question mark directly after them, suggesting that the makers of the map were not certain that the locations of the stations were correct, or if the stations even existed.
