What I got from the purple sky line was that the Others didn't know that would happen or really what it was that caused it. At least the grunts didn't, perhaps Ben did and he's not saying.

If comms aren't working, that indicates either a residual electromagnetic field is present or that the ex/implosion created an EMF that burned out circuits that weren't shielded.

I took "comms" to mean outside communications like radio, cable, or satellite, not intercoms. The Others stated that the intercoms hadn't worked for a long time.

A monkey could repair intercoms. What are these people? Schizophrenic savants? Afterall, they still have functioning CCTV's all over the wretched island. So they're trained in video repair, but not audio?

Talk about technological differentiation. "I can take an x-ray, but I can't splice wires or solder connections. My union won't allow it."

What puzzles me and always has is that when Ben lied to Locke about pressing the button. Ben said "I didn't put in the numbers, i never pressed the button" BUT HE DID! So why would he lie to Locke??? Did Ben want John to go crazy? Or did he want the losties not to push it? I don't get it!

He wanted Locke to make the choice not to push it, probably hoping that he and whoever else was in the Swan would be killed.

I think Locke is a very powerful key to the whole mystery, and perhaps a dire threat to the Others for some reason.
