Johnathan "John" Locke
Johnathan "John" Locke is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. His paralysis was immediately healed upon crashing on the Island, which has ultimately led him to believe he has some sort of special connection to the Island. He is sometimes shown in antithesis to Benjamin Linus, sharing several traits including the ability to commune with Jacob. Seen as antithetical to Jack Shephard, he and Jack are philosophical opposites and used to share leadership among the survivors, but now seems to be creating his own agenda for his actions on the Island and has broken off from the survivors.

The infant thing .... I think they want a newborn infant b/c it is not yet exposed to whatever it is that the vaccine shots are /were for ( that Desmond took everyday , etc .. ) ... the thing that infected Dannielle 's people .... the ones that died or whatever . Part of that experiment in the medical hatch , maybe ...... But , then , Sun is already pregnant , but maybe the others don't know yet .... Kate , Sawyer and Jack do know , as well as Jin . That's all , I think ......

posed a threat?
perhaps kate, sawyer and jack posed a threat to the others. the others seem to be searching for "special" people. Hurley has a strange connection to the numbers and suddenly had good luck once he landed on the island, Locke's legs are suddenly not paralyzed- he believes the island was his destiny, Rose recovered from disease, Walt has special powers as seen with the bird in the first season, and initially didn't want to leave the island. The Others have a need for children whether it be because they are young and strong, or there's something special about them, but that will protect Sun in some way. Plus, she wasn't suposed to be able to have kids, but "the island let her". For each of these characters, the island has positively affected them as if they should stay there. The others think that the island is theirs..and maybe they believe that these characters belong with the island, with them.
Characters like Kate, Sawyer and Jack (well...maybe not Kate-i think there may be something to her but i'm not certain yet) are realists...same with Sayid and Micheal. The island hasn't done anything for them. They just want to live and try to get rescued.
I think that the others want the "special" people to live and join them and kill those that don't believe. This is possibly why they let Hurley go.
Any thoughts?

I believe the ONLY reason Hurley was brought along was so that he could go back and tell the losties to stay away and not to try to rescue Kate, Jack and Sawyer.

Jin did not have surgery!!He's not that dumb,to want children, and know he can't be a father...Dr.lied,said it was Suns fault no kids,as he was terrified of Jin...

The reason I think that the others took them is that the Others want Locke to be in charge of the whole island. Locke has always had sort of an attatchment to the island, a belief of fate in him. And when he was nice to Hengry Gale*, and Henry Gale helped him during Lockdown, maybe he shared the kindess of Locke with the other.. others.
And so, taking away the three strongest people of the 'tribe', they reduced the options of leader. And Hurley, I heard, is going to be gone in the third season. No idea why, but I think something happens to him. So then Locke is in charge.
