How do you know that The Others can erase minds? So say it like it's a fact ^_^ For all we know she's lying about losing her memory, or she just lost it due to being through a tramatic event. I'll get you a jump to conclusions mat with a few for conclusions on it so you can keep your options open.

Oh, and I think the others want children because their leader is Micahel Jackson....

Ha-Ha, What? Has that joke been said before....

Kyle

You know, everyone seems so convinced that The Others want the children because they are morally pure and easily influenced. I want to see the writers totally surprise us with the real reason they want them. (And I hope it's not to eat them! :? ) It just seems too easy to say that they want them to brainwash them. C'mon, writers, surprise me!!!

I also think that Claire's baby is going to play a big part in how everything turns out. Since it seems to have taken somewhat of a Biblical turn, maybe the baby will turn out to be some kind of savior in the end.

So the idea that Dharma abandoned the Others and they consider themselves the true "owners" of the island...a community committed to survive...since they are scientists, would they want to expand the gene pool as much as they can?

Like what was said earlier in this thread about a Peter Benchley novel, if the Others truly believe they are on their own and are building a new society, I think the dangers of having a small gene pool would weigh large on their minds. So, they snatch the children (all of the children who were with the tailies, plus Alex, plus Walt, and almost Aaron). And remember what that guy who was an Other told Ana, "We take the best of the survivors, and leave the rest." (That probably is not exactly what he said, but it's close).

If that's so, that's why they don't want Jack and Locke and Sawyer and Sayidd. They don't need anymore alpha males. They need women and children to keep things going for the future. The original Others (Dharma people who were there during the first "incident") are getting old. They need to start thinking about "passing the torch" to next the generation of Others.

Those are the children they are now raising (and indoctrinating).

Sorry, got a little off topic.

Driveshaft, definetely agree with you about the children. Their minds are much easier to manipulate. The Others definetely want the kids! Makes me worry for Sun's baby...

Their minds are easier to manipulate, they are still forming their opinions and thoughts about the world around them. And yes thank you I do have contact with "the modern kid"- two live in my house, and several hundred attend my school. I know kids in today's society are great with computers, much more than most adults- but I still think their thoughts and opinions are easier to manipulate than adults.
