Dr. Jack Shephard
Dr. Jack Shephard is often seen as the main character of the series. He is a spinal surgeon and the de facto leader of the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Jack has control issues and trouble dealing with situations that he cannot fix. However, this attitude of solving problems through reason has given him the ability to function well in crisis. Sometimes, if he feels guilt or pain over a situation he can't fix himself, he will do anything he can to fix it, even borderlining on obsessive. Jack is, most of the time, in control of his life, emotions and situation he is in and is able to keep a cool head in tense situations. Jack is also the half brother of Claire Littleton, although neither of them is aware of this. Jack has formed very strong bonds with Kate and Juliet while he has been on the Island.

Hanso - why they made the hatches
I was lookin at the newly updated thehansofoundation.org, it is very interesting. there is a module with all the "active projects"
There are 6
-mathematical forecasting initiative
-worldwide wellness and prevention development program
-Mental Health Program
-Electromagetic Research Initiative
-Institute for Genomic Advancement
-Life Extention Project
what i thought was interesting is that there are also 7 hatches. I figure, the active projects are the experiments on the island, and there is one in each hatch area, and one main hatch, or maybe medical hatch.
one reason for this is that there are certain characters that would go fit perfectly into some studies. Hurley for example could have been meant to end up in the mental health study, maybe libby as well. Locke in the Genomic Advancement study, because of his former paralysis. Rose in the wellness and prevention development, or the genomic advancement because of her cancer. The babies and children could have been taken for the life extention program, or any of the others.
I think the others that take people are dharma or hanso employees, and they are trying to take certain people to put them into the right study.
Idk how this will play out, but its my theory...

that actually makes sense.. but i don't know...
worldwide wellness and prevention development program = medical hatch?
Electromagetic Research Initiative = lostties' hatch?
can't really relate the tailie's hatch... or the underwater hatch i believe there is...
could "mathematical forecasting initiative" explain why sometimes its sunny on the beach and raining inside the island?
good idea anyway

yea the only thing is that i dont know which hatch is which, may become more obvious when the others do what they wanna do. But the underwater hatch doesnt really fit with much anyway, its not on the map i dont think, unless the boundaries of the map and the boundaries of the island are different.
OH and another thing, If Michael was telling the truth about the savage people living in tents, then they could be another group being studied, and there could be a bunch of those groups of people on the island.
there are some holes in this of course though.. cant wait till next week to see how it plays out
