Announcing Downtime due to Server Move

Due to the hacking attempts the server, this website (amongst others), is hosted on is compromised. Therefore we have decided to move to a more secure and powerfull server. The new server is currently undergoing testing and tweaking and will be ready later today. Because of the interacting nature of this site we cannot move this website over without any downtime. This means that this website wont be available for up to 24 hours when we hit the move button. To get into detail: when we change the nameservers to point to the new server, it takes up to 24 hours to propegate throughout the entire world. Some may experience downtime for less then an hour, while others will have to wait longer. This we cannot control.

Moving a server takes alot of planning. This is the first time we actually regret LOST not having a small 2 week break. We have to do it on thursday or friday (we might even do it on monday and hope its back up in time for the new episode)

The new server is highly secured by a team of professional server administrators and has cost us quite a bit of money and effort. However, during testing we have found it to be alot faster to europe and that hopefully counts for the US too. Also, the system has more power which will eventually help us to stay fast even on the peak hours (on wednesday night and thursdays).

We hope you wont hold a grudge against us for the downtime and continue to support us after we have moved to the new server.

Thanks for the heads-up, with any luck the site will be available at 5pm PST tomorrow so that I can review the new episode as soon as it ends.

It might be a good idea to put a notice about this at the top of the page the day before it happens. A lot of people don't come into this forum.

Well yes, a notice will be up during the downtime to explain to visitors.

Dowtime scheduled from Saturday 03-10 -> Sunday 03-11 (hopefully back up by monday)

Well that is good timing too... I am not on as much durning the weekend & at least we can discuss enter 77 some before the down time and be back up in time for the next episode... Thanks for letting us know when the down time is scheduled!!
