Kate Austen

Kate Austen is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Kate is a fugitive, and was being pursued by Marshal Mars prior to the flight, for blowing up her father. Kate had been captured in Australia and was being escorted back to the United States before the crash. Kate has always seemed to run away from her past. Even on the Island, Kate exhibits a kind of evasive behavior to escape from her problems. Kate, when on the run, always had good intentions and never did any outright harm or killings to anybody, she believed she was doing things for the greater benefit of others. This view is prominently connected with her actions of her father's murder - she believed she was relieving her mother from his abusive presence. Kate is strong-willed, useful and clever, but dislikes being alone and is usually level-headed.

She has escaped from the captivity of the Others with Sawyer, and has formed an ambiguous romantic relationship with him, despite still being unsure about her feelings for Jack.

Default King Series Correlation

Humor me LOST people....BTW, I have just finished season one on DVD. I am impressed! I wonder, if there are any Stephen King fans, has anyone of yet noticed the similarities in the Dark Tower Series and Lost? Mostly in Stephen King's 1st 4 books of the series? Maybe I'm too late to jump on the Lost following, but I couldn't get into it until the DVD came out and my boyfriend made me watch. The show seems so familiar.
PLEASE someone who has read The Gunslinger, Drawing of the 3, or Wastelands tell me if I am right. This is to see if my theory about the Island is going to follow the stories so much like the books. My boyfriend thinks my books are too silly, yet the show he's been gabbing about since it came out LOST is like the books I've tried to get him to read.
Island wants the kid - The tower wanted Jake
Hurleys numbers - The number 19
Charlie's addiction - Eddie's addiction
Crazy French Lady - Suzanna Dean
The hatch - the doors on the beach or the rose in NY city?
Locke's quest for the hatch - Roland's 4 the tower
Is the jungle monster going to turn out to be like Shardik the bear?
Oh so weird is this show LOST. But I am totally addicted and it is driving me NUTS!

I've noticed some similarities, but even with all the twists in LOST, its level of detail doesn't come anywhere near that of King's DT and related books. This is to be expected since LOST is written in/for a different medium than DT. I think the similarities may either be coincidental or one of the writers is a King fan, but I'd be surprised if the story parallels DT throughout since I would think there would be real copyright issues

An unrelated observation: I notice King's books, especially DT, seem to have a large following among American Southerners. Another msg. board that I visit regularly has one poster using the nickname "Gunslinger" and an avatar of Roland. He's from Arkansas. Since King's a New Englander and focuses more on setting books in that area, I've puzzled over why his stuff has such a following down here. Ever thought about that?
