Benjamin "Ben" Linus

Benjamin "Ben" Linus is the leader of the Others on the Island. Ben arrived on the Island as a child, brought by his father Roger to work for the DHARMA Initiative. Ben takes orders from Jacob, and is the only person who visits and speaks with him. Ben's apparent goal is to keep the Island and its special properties secret from the outside world, and he goes to great lengths to achieve this.

Do we beleve what we see(that gun case under a passenger seat)or what we hear(Kate saying the Marshal checked the case) Why should she lie about where on the plane the case was?

Those unfortunate souls in the water were the folks in front of Kate and Mars. She didn't want to be associated with the U.S. Marshall.
