Season One DVD Menu Surprises

It is well known that on Disk 6, if you wait through several iterations, the beechcraft airplane falls from the cliff.

What I have not seen described is that each Main Menu has a short video clip that is only played once (when you "restart" the DVD), and then loops. As in the case of the beechcraft, some of the disks have subtle differences after a few iterations and the sounds of the Monster in the background.

Disk 1 : The initial clip for the Main Menu shows Jack trying to sit up; he raises his hands, and you see his face briefly. After that iteration, he only breathes in and out. But if you wait through three full cycles, the sound track changes for an iteration and you hear a crashing and unmistakable monster noises. The video does not appear to change, only the sounds.

Disk 2 : has the french transmission as an easter egg from the Episodes menu. If you listen closely to the background sound on all iterations of the Episodes menu, there are more monster sound effects mixed with creaking and rain.

Disk 4 : If you watch the video for the Main menu closely, you see black smoke mixed with a whitish fog floating along the ground. Toward the end of each iteration, what appears to be a round black hole becomes visible in the middle of the screen (oval shaped to the viewer since it is lying on the ground). After a few iterations, there is a very clear Monster tree crunching sound and loud wing flapping noise. Again, the iteration is three cycles, but on this disk there are two fadeouts per cycle, so you might count it as six. When the sound occurs, there is also a set of bright reflection/highlights on the menu title words, as if they are reflecting some kind of moving light.

Disk 5 : Possible footstep or camera shutter or splash? just when Kate remover her top.

Disk 6 : falling beechcraft after several iterations at the Main Menu.
From a "restart" there are 7 fadeouts, then it continues a bit longer and the plane falls prior to the 8th fadeout. After that, the plane falls every 6 fadeouts... (sorry if that is confusing, but just wait and you will see the plane fall - you can count the fadeouts if you want to pass the time)

Disk 7 : The inital clip on "restart" to the Main Menu shows the hatch with daylight on it, and fades to night, when the hatch window lights up from within. There is an easter egg button near "Disk 7" that plays the "Alternate Main Title Sequence."
There are also an outtake of Locke smiling with orange slices in his mouth found from the "Tales from the Island" menu - the easter egg button is near the hatch window. The third easter egg is under "Deleted Scenes" and plays a humorous version of Charlie and Shannon discussing Lord of the Rings in and outtake from the climb scene.

I could not make the words out for sure, but on Disk 7, there appear to be some faint words near the top of the hatch ladder on a couple of the sub-menus. Since I am unsure about this, I will leave it to others to take a look:
