I have stayed firm on the belief that like Locke said, dark and white, or good and evil. The faces in the hatch mural are black and white, this could mean Locke and Eko or it could mean good and evil.

I think good and evil is and will be a recurring theme in most of the episodes.

OK, so the glass eye, we can assume it's patchy's. He used to inhabit one station, got bored there, and left for the Flame hatch to which he is now in control of Smokey. (smoke from a flame... hey, I didn't make it up). Smokey is now his eyes and ears for the island, hence he doesn't need to go out much or socialize... and he leaves the eye out. Lost solved. your welcome.

I think the most sensible response is that the glass eye belongs to the Other dude with the eye patch, who seemed to die when one of the castaways (can't remember who) pushed him between the sonic pilings. Then he shows up later and explains that they were only set to stun, even though he was bleeding from the ears (???) Why he would leave his glass eye behind I have no idea. Unless he had to leave in a hurry. Do we know if the smoke monster chases the Others too? Because we don't know for certain that the Others control the smoke monster, right?
