Kate Austen
Kate Austen is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Kate is a fugitive, and was being pursued by Marshal Mars prior to the flight, for blowing up her father. Kate had been captured in Australia and was being escorted back to the United States before the crash. Kate has always seemed to run away from her past. Even on the Island, Kate exhibits a kind of evasive behavior to escape from her problems. Kate, when on the run, always had good intentions and never did any outright harm or killings to anybody, she believed she was doing things for the greater benefit of others. This view is prominently connected with her actions of her father's murder - she believed she was relieving her mother from his abusive presence. Kate is strong-willed, useful and clever, but dislikes being alone and is usually level-headed.
She has escaped from the captivity of the Others with Sawyer, and has formed an ambiguous romantic relationship with him, despite still being unsure about her feelings for Jack.

That sounds vaguely familar, but I can't really place it. What was the name of that episode?

I read that article, too, on another site about the connections to the Godfather. I thought it was interesting. Vito Corleone does the orange smile for his grandson, Anthony. John Locke does his orange smile for Walt.
I always thought that Jin's friend thought that love would be orange was interesting, of all the colors - orange. Great remembering, Wednighter, I had totally put that little scene out of my mind.

Actually, he gives the smile to Kate after she takes the boots off the dead guy. It would've been better if he gave Walt that smile

Ugh, let's see, let me count! I have twenty other sites that I have marked "favorites" on my computer for Lost stuff that I read, but I really only post here. The Godfather thing I read on at least two or three of them. Thanks guys, that 's right - the smile was to Kate, not Walt.

Could this be a homage to The Godfather movies?
For people who don't know what I'm talking about, the color orange or actual oranges were shown just before a death occurs in the movies. For anyone who might have brought this up long ago, my apologies.

Aw jeez, now I have to go rewatch the Godfather trilogy (1 & 2 no problem, 3, meh) and look for oranges before deaths... Off the top of my head, Vito was shot buying oranges, and the famous orange-wedge-in-the-mouth-while-chasing-grandson-through-tomato-vines death scene, I'm thinking Sonny's death was kind of colorless (as is the Jersey turnpike, apart from colorful language that is) Fredo (who's smart, not like people say, and who wants respect) was shot in the boat while saying a Hail Mary, but all that's shown is Micheal through the window...
Well I guess I have time, seeing as Lost won't be on for another how many weeks?
Oh BTW, what do you all think of the Lost:Enhanced hoopla they're showing now (and that's been posted on abc.com) IMO, it's kinda lame and distracting, kind of like pop up info on music videos...

The enhanced versions of the episodes seem like a good idea, but the information they give has rarely been any big deal IMO. They actually appear to most useful for casual or new viewers.
I am sure that someone here could point out something that was in a pop up that was cool info, but the majority of it that I have seen was just to help people out that haven't watched previous seasons or at least not watched and discussed it like we do here.
