Why do you guys thing the other losties decided to stay? Rose has her reasons we see now but jin,sawyer and rest of them, Jack did say they choose to stay but he did'nt he saved her(Kate) does it seem to you guys that they were given a choice and some decided just not to leave? I dont understand that because from my view things are not that good living on the beach and not being part of the others mean constant war?

i think Jin made the choice to stay because of his life back home. he didn't seem very happy and it showed through the way he treated Sun before the crash. the island has changed him so why go back. Sun needs to go back to save her life as well as the pregnancy.

Sawyer was talking to Kate before she re-joined Jack and he said that he had nothing to go back for.it seems that most of them don't want to leave for that same reason.

The Others/Hostiles whatever you call Ben's people are not in constant war with the survivors. They were content to leave them alone, until they crossed the line. Who have they actually killed? I believe Ben when he said they are the good guys. They are fighting the freighties, and the survivors have gotten caught up in that. I think the survivors could stay on the island and not be bothered.

Ok, theory----
The Losties, Others and the Freighties are 'at war' over the island. The helicopter that can get off the island to the boat only holds so many people --- get the important ones off....
Sun- who is preggers
Aaron - just a baby and his mother is dead (I think via the blast to the house and the 'headache' she couldn't sake this episode)
Kate- because she is hurt int the battle somehow and needs med attn asap
Jack- to save Kate's life - the medical bay on the boat
Sayid - who knows how to drive a boat/fix all the communications equipment
Hurley - don't have a good theory on him yet (maybe he knows how to fly a chopper?)

All the others sacrifice staying behind so those 6 can leave the island safely.
Hence, Jack's statement about Sawyer choosing to stay, and that he saved her.

Earlier episodes made it pretty clear as to why Sawyer might have chosen to stay on island- like Ben said, Sawyer wouldn't be much off the island while he's somewhat of a useful, strong guy slowly gaining power and popularity among Losties.

Jin stayed, probably because there weren't enough space or something like that, and he ended up having to make a sacrificial choice for the good of Sun and the baby.

Kate could be one of them because when Claire dies she makes Kate promise that she will take care of Aaron.

I think Ben will say that Hurley has earned his way off the island by assisting in finding Jacob's cabin. I also think that Hurley is going to be a very important character very soon. Maybe he becomes more of a hero, just like Sawyer is?

Ben is going to make darn sure that Sayid gets off the island because he is going to want to con Sayid into working for him as an assassin. I think Ben is going to want Sayid to track down and kill Penny for him. Since Widmore claimed that technically he didn't kill Alex (Keamy did), Ben is going to want to do the same thing. Playing by the same new rules, see? Just my guess...
