I think that they did realize that the Losties were going to struggle against them but they showed still in season 3 when Michael was leading the ones on the list back to the Others that they could still take them if they wanted to.. They captured Kate too when they took Michael.. Told them not to cross the line, so I think they were still capable of taking people, just at this point maybe it was easier to for example take Michael and have him bring the people they wanted..

I would imagine the same people who were in the room when Sabine died.. Goodwin was there, Juliette, Tom seems to be around when things are happing quite often.. Ethan for sure.. Remember when Ben and Jack were talking, Ben tells him they used to have a great surgeon his name was Ethan..

by the time they would worry but aaron they had other plans in mind wit jack and then locke ****ed everything up wit the sub then it went down hill from there..
