Bernard Nadler
Bernard Nadler is a tail section survivor of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815 and the husband of Rose. He is the only tail section survivor that has not been killed, captured, or assimilated in to the Others. He wasn't seated in the tail section, and was only there when the plane crashed because he was using the bathroom then. Bernard cares very much for Rose and feels a need to fix things, like her cancer, not dissimilar to Jack.

I like Fisher Stevens (the actor that played Minkowski) I was surprised and a little bit upset about him dying in his first episode. I thought Minkowski was going to be similiar to Ben's character.
But I think he is really dead.
I thought that the dead people that some of the characters have seen on the island. Like Jack's dad and Eko's brother were some form of the smoke monster.

Hurley tells him to go away cause he is dead...and Charley agrees that yeah he did die, but that he is still there, so how about they talk...He obviously has something he wants to communicate to Hurley, but maybe he goes away again when he realizes it is too much for Hurley, i.e Hurley freaks out, closes his eyes and plugs his ears. There is the other patient that sees Charley too to verify his actual presence, but I guess that could too have been a figment of Hurley's imagination.
I also seem not to remember why/how Locke got out of the pit that Ben left him for dead in. Perhaps I missed an episode? Could someone enlighten me?

Walt shows up when Locke is in the pit.

I think he's dead too which is too bad, I've always liked him as a character on his other projects. I don't know about the smoke monster. I'm liking the theories people are floating out there about the people moving through time, even to a place after their bodies are dead.
Has anyone here read The Time Traveler's Wife? Not only is it an excellent book but they talk about a kind of time travel that reminds me of what's happening on the island. The big difference is that the character in the book actually goes back with his body to a different time where those on the island seem to just be sending their consciousness backwards and forwards. In the book, he goes forward to a time when his body has already died and gets to see his daughter and wife a couple of times. Even though his body didn't exist in that time period, he was there and they saw him. It seems with Desmond, there was already a body for him to enter. But with the dead characters like Charlie and Christian, they don't have a body to enter so they sort of bring theirs with them. Although they are aware of their past (deaths, etc) they have somehow broken from their time line to make some type of change in the lives of our LOSTies.

Agreed with the smoke monster thing. Every person that has been "scene" is the smoke monster I think. Or maybe even Jacob.
I really thought this after Eko gives his "forgive me, for I have NOT sinned" speech to the vision of his brother...the vision says, "You speak to me as if I am really your brother."
So...yeah!
We all remember the faces seen flickering in the smoke monster also. It's much more than smoke for sure.
