Claire Littleton
Claire Littleton is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. She is Jack Shephard's half-sister, although neither of them knows this. She is the mother of Aaron Littleton who was born on the Island soon after the crash, and has done her best to raise Aaron. During her time on the Island, she entered a relationship with fellow survivor, Charlie Pace.

What about the people who didn't survive the crash?
If we all agree that FATE (possibly personified by Widmore, the Hanso Foundation, or Mr. Paik's corporation, etc.) destined the Losties to land on the island, what does that mean for the people who didn't survive the crash?
1.) Were they just collateral damage?
2.) Or were they judged even more harshly than the Losties and destined to be punished more harshly too?
Hierarchy of Worthiness for Inhabitants of the Island(???):
Least Worthy to Most Worthy:
The couple still seat-belted to their Oceanic chairs at the bottom of the pond come to mind...
The people who died shortly after the crash (the pilot, the marshall, Joanna who drowned on Day 6, etc.) somewhere in the middle
And so on moving up to a status of more worthy. (Goodwin, Nikki, Paolo, Colleen, Charley, etc.)
The survivors (Locke, Kate, Jack, Desmond, etc.) at the very top
Does this idea make sense to anyone besides me? Comments, anyone? 'Cause I'd sure like some feedback on this.

They found some sort of completion in their lives, and were able to move on quickly, while a lot of our losties have a lot of emotional baggage to deal with.

I like your thinking, because all of the people who did survive the crash all had "stuff" they needed to deal with.

Maybe only the characters who refuse to deal with their past die. I mean, when Mr. Eko refused to "confess" his sins and says he isn't sorry for anything he has done in the past, he gets killed by the island a.k.a. Smokey.
And when Locke sees Smokey in the first season, he is spared. Maybe because he is willing to deal with his past? That could be the reason why he survived after all.
Any thoughts?
