but if the two in the hatch were expecting charlie then why would they not just kill him upon arrival, it didnt look to me like they were expecting him

Yeah, good question. Maybe they didn't know when he would come and were down there so long that they were caught off guard? OK...I have no idea! Maybe I'm totally wrong with Charley theory.

More importantly to me, I think that there are (probably) several storylines in Lost where characters are leading multiple lives because of time travel. Here's my idea (for which Cablerunner is largely responsible): The different storylines in Lost have been told in pieces; out of order; and with big, gaping holes. Naturally, we want to fit all together to make one coherent narrative. I think many characters have more than 1 narrative and that's one reason why the storylines don't fit together. Ben Linus' mom; Christian Shepherd; and Yemi, for example, how can any of them appear on the island if they're already dead? Because time travel allows them to get a second chance to live a new life. Cablerunner has theories about multiple Jacks (which might even explain why the Brazillian guy working for Penny looks so much like Jack), multiple Desmonds, and other main characters. The stories don't fit together because it's not the same character in all of the scenes we've been shown.
