Kate Austen
Kate Austen is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Kate is a fugitive, and was being pursued by Marshal Mars prior to the flight, for blowing up her father. Kate had been captured in Australia and was being escorted back to the United States before the crash. Kate has always seemed to run away from her past. Even on the Island, Kate exhibits a kind of evasive behavior to escape from her problems. Kate, when on the run, always had good intentions and never did any outright harm or killings to anybody, she believed she was doing things for the greater benefit of others. This view is prominently connected with her actions of her father's murder - she believed she was relieving her mother from his abusive presence. Kate is strong-willed, useful and clever, but dislikes being alone and is usually level-headed.
She has escaped from the captivity of the Others with Sawyer, and has formed an ambiguous romantic relationship with him, despite still being unsure about her feelings for Jack.

I was too lazy to go back and check all 13 pages but obviously one of my favorite lines in the series is my signature. When Locke is explaining Backgammon to Walt. That is so great. I was re-watching the first season with one of my cousins and I also really, really thoroughly enjoyed when Charlie is talking to Jack and he says something along the lines of;
"If I had to pick one person on this Island to save us all, it'd be John Locke"
To me it was kind of a foreboding, or foreshawdowing, sense of things to come in the series, and its very early on in the series as well, its when Locke has started to apprentice Boone, which ultimately leads to his demise, and they are out digging around in the hatch when everyone thinks they are hunting for boar.
As a matter of fact, and this is sort of a repost because I realised I had forgotten about this scene, as Im sure I will do with many others, and decided to add it to my little list.
I love the scene where Locke tells Hurley right before they find the Orchid "You can go back Hurley, I dont want you to put you in any danger" and Hurley decides to stay with Locke and Ben instead of going back in the jungle alone. At which point Ben turns to Locke and says "Very good, John. He thinks it was his idea to stay." Locke replies, "Im not you Ben". And Ben says with a look of disappointment, "You're certainly not."

I sure this has been mentioned before, but I have been rewatching season 1 on DVD the last couple of days and this made me laugh:
Charlie and Hurley are burying Ethan and...
CHARLIE: Hurley, look, I appreciate the help. You don't have to. I killed Ethan, I can bury him.
HURLEY: Yeah, 'til he rises from the dead. Dude, I know how this works. This is going to end with you and me running through the jungle screaming and crying. He catches me first because I'm heavy and I get cramps.
