Ben's Magic Box

I have seen talk about Ben's box comment in a couple threads, but couldn't find one with this specific topic. So I thought I would start one.

My first impression was that Ben was trying to lure Locke in with false info, and stall for time to prevent Locke from blowing up the sub. A magic box that could produce what ever you could imagine. This is just the kind of weird island thing that Locke would be interested in. But Locke doesn't buy it.
He tells him that if he had such a box then Ben could imagine himself up a new submarine.

Now after seeing the episode, it is clear that Ben wanted Locke to blow up the sub. So whats with the box story. Someone (sorry I forget who) mention that they thought the box was the island itself. This makes some sense, because of the appearence of people and items that are related to the losties desires.
Examples
Yemi's plane crashed on the island --- Eko
Same plane loaded with heroin ---- Charlie
Kate's horse
Jack's dad
a whole library of books (seems like it) for Sawyer to read
dharma van for Hurley

and other things like this keep popping up on the island.

So I think Ben was using a magic box as an analogy for the island itself. But there are still a lot of loose ends to tie up.

How come Charlie and Claire couldn't conjure up some real peanut butter? If you just really want something badly and the island *poof* gives it to you.... There must be much more to it or there would be lots more people and things appearing. I think the dead relatives are smoky and maybe the horse and cat too.

but see Claire and Charlie did finally get some peanut butter. I am not suggesting that it is exactly like Ben said I think he was just using the box as a way to explain that sooner or later you find what you are looking for whether mundane like peanut butter or more complex like Yemi (the dead corpse Yemi not the walking around talking to Eko Yemi)

And yeah sure there is definitly a lot more to it. But I think Ben was just giving Locke his first baby step towards whatever the heck is going on with the island.

The island then is an opportunity to turn fate on it's ear. Big question is how long have they had Cooper, as in, did Ben know Locke would be there eventually.

Probably did, judging from the fact that Henry said to Locke "you wanted it so he could never find you." And oh look your Dad just happens to be tied up in my little, dark, room, thing. Riiiiiight...

I have to admit, they did that last bit really really well, it sorta tied Locke together. He got depressed because his father stole his kidney, then he was disabled cos his father pushed him out of a window, and he finally felt free because he would never see him again. Just as they'd finished what I feel will be the last Locke flashback, out of the blue his father was there. I was half expecting it to be something really weird, like his father but all mutated like that scene in Alien Ressurection with all the different Sigourney Weaver's..

I'll finish this post with a (loose) quote from season 1:
Walt : Do you have a father?
Locke : Everybody has a father.
Walt : Is he cool?
Locke : No. He's not cool.

I feel so bad for Locke cuz the whole reason he blew up the sub was so his father could never get to him and his father is there already. Uhhgg!!!

Integrated is right as far as this season is concerned (at least partially). I have heard that we won't see Locke again on the show for the next five weeks. Where he goes or why I don't know yet.

GAAAAAAAH you shoulda put that as a SPOILER!!!

Why would Kate really,really want to see a horse that she'd only seen in the rain,that caused an accident? Granted,it did give her a chance to run,but she put the horse to no use..However,they do have horses on the island.....
