I was just pondering how a lot of the characters have mothers with issues:

Jack - his mom never seen much, but insists Jack go after his father
Locke - his mother gave him up for adoption, is a nut and conned him out of a kidney for money
Shannon/Boone - evil stepmother/mother with no sympathy, just a booming business
Hurley - his mother drove him crazy and kept insulting him, even after he won the lottery
Walt - his mother took him from Michael for a job opportunity, unwilling to give Michael partial custody
Sun - her mother drove her nuts insisting she get married, have a family, etc.
Kate - her mother was afraid of her and screamed for help in the hospital when Kate came to visit
Sawyer - his mother had an affair with a confidence man, was conned out of money and later killed by his father.

See what I mean? Anyone here have a somewhat-normal family?

I don't think we know that yet - maybe it has something to do with the crime that made Kate a fugitive. That was one of the most heart-wrenching scenes in that episode, though.

I've got a feeling kate's crime had something to do with screwing her mom over big time. She must have set her mom up somehow for her mom to act like that.

Kate's crime was kidnapping her friend and getting him killed, her mother saw her before that happened. Or maybe there was a crime before that?

She had to have done something before that because when she got her friend killed she was running from the cops after she saw them in the hospital so she must have done something big before that.
