Default The writers killing Lost characters

Its sad that the writers of Lost are overly concerned with killing cast memebers for ratings sweeps, instead of keeping the characters alive and actually having to do the work of creating a story on the island.

I think that the sole reason the writers kill off characters is that they are done with the "flashback" and don't want to write anything more for that chracter. Instead of writing about the dynamics of island life and how a group of survivors can come together and create a new island society, they only care about the lame flashbacks.

The first one or two flashbacks make for great television, but by the 3rd or 4th, like Jack and Kate, can it get any more boring. We like the show because its both a reflection of our past and our future, but the writers seemed pre-occupied with only the flashback storylines.

The reason the show is getting lamer is because the writing is weak, they have a weak island story, and the flashbacks are getting weaker. The writers have the lame idea of creating new characters for more flashbacks.

Here's an idea, concentrate more on the island survivors and how they struggle to live, or is life on the island just a paradise.

I'm sorry for the rant, but the writers are just exploring uninteresting and bizarre tangents like the Others that just suck. Now that the writers seem intent on killing Charlie or another character is just beyond comprehension. I bet instead of Charlie dying, Desmond will somehow "take" Charlies place and be killed.

Now if Desmond dies, that will truly be a shame, and a great disappointment for the show.

They aren't killing off characters for the fun of it... Some of the characters were getting into trouble here on the island and were not allowed to stay so they had to kill them off in the episodes. Trust me, I live here.

I agree with some of what you said. I think the writers have made some bad choices. Like the 13 week break and dishing out more questions than answers. As for the killing of people, a few got into trouble and others moved on to other projects. Has anyone heard if D.M. (Charlie) has something new in the works?

I don't really think Charlie is going to die. He basicallly said so inthe Oasis song he was singing when Desmond met him "Your gonna be the one to save me!" was one of the lines. I bet Charlie will survive and have a big impact on the end of the show.

You're right though, the writers have to get back to what made them great, but the flashbacks being lame, I can't agree with you there.

I disagree about the flashbacks, as I believe they are crucial to the whole story.

Do you mean the cast - like Michelle Rodriguez and Libby?

So they killed them off becuase of legal problems? Her character deserved to die. But its curious that producers may have been uncomfortable with the press dealing with a gay character since she's bi.

Libby's death was pointless and another buzzkill.

Michelle and Libby were both in some trouble here and had to leave the island, so the producers killed them off. It was a pretty lame way to kill them off though.

The season 3 flashbacks for Kate and Jack weren't very interesting. They try to hard to make it emotional and its just not there. i would rather something emotional happens on the island and have them move forward with the character development on the island.

When Jack told Kate not to come back for him - that was very moving. But the other parts just felt so forced and contrived. The Others are acting like the writers, trying to move the storyline in very contrived and pseudo-mysterious ways.

They should make a SNL skit about the flashbacks. Like Hurley looking for the ranch dressing, and then having a flashback to when he worked at BK and had a bad experience with the ranch dressing going bad. Just completely stupid flashbacks would be hilarious.

It would be like the chris walken skit when he sees people's futures, but they are pointless anecdotes.

I have enjoyed the writing and direction of this show from the very beginning, and I still do. I am intrigued by the flashbacks and character development. I savor the mystery of unanswered questions, and all the endless possibilities. I do not think the writers are killing this show at all. I think it was developed with the intention of having a beginning and an end...unlike many weekly dramas that would love to drone on for 10 or 20 years if they could. This show has a relatively short life span as was intended, and I think that just adds to the uniqueness of it. I really hate it when characters die off at times, but I love the fact that we never know who will go. No one is off limits as far as death goes (just like the real world) and that is what keeps it fresh and exciting. We really do not know who could be next...isn't that cool? I really was convinced Claire was slated to die as Desmond tried desperately to save her, only to have the rug pulled out from under my proverbial feet and find out it was Charlie!! I love that they fooled me...... This is one fan who is not disappointed in the least. Bravo to the creators of this show!!

When one of your favorite characters dies it sucks (Mr. Eko for example), also like it sucked when the Bears lost. But I am still just as entertained and loving torwards Da'Bears. Just as I am still entertained with LOST.
