I think after watching the Pilot, we can say for sure that someone set certain people up to be on the plane and in the fuselage. Here are some reasons.
A. Jack moved seats while trying to get up, and charlie and staff passes, making him sit in the aisle. As the masks drop, the seat he's at doesn't, he has to reach fro his mask.
B. Charlie was in the nose, where ALL passengers died, yet he's on the beach with the fuse's.
C. boone and Shannon were supposed to be in first class, but the ticket agent wouldn't 'let' them sit there. They died eventually.
D. Kate doens't get the immediate swig of air from the masks, which knocked everyone else out, and I definately think she saw more than she has ever said to anyone.
E. the Pilot, should have been dead originally, smokey finishes the job quick, and has only killed Eko since.
F. (not pilot) All tailies, except Bernard, who was dropping a deuce, are now gone. I know the kids and Cindy may bealive and all that, but hey, just who we see, the only tailie left was one who wasn't supposed to be there.

Not real strong arguments, but I see a duality here in Lost, two forces are actually fighting oer who is to be saved and used, and who is to be canned.

What do you guys think, definite setup, but from how long ago.

OHHH, also. the monster is tearing up **** in the jungle, and the ones who get the closest to inspect what he is, are the main characters of the show. I don't know if it was meant that way, but if Smokey was scanning brains, maybe he just picked out those. BUT, that seemed just like a time for producers to show the most important people, plus it blows the first part of my idea away if it were true.

A setup is certainly implied, but as with all things Lost it could be coincidence, or fate at work. There is further evidence to support this at the Oceanic Airlines website, where if you look at seating arrangements and at the flight sequences, certain rows (4, 8,15,16,23, and 42 to be more to the point) contained the people who survived the crash.

That, however, could also be entirely coincidental, or contrived just to make us think there is more to it.

As for Kate seeing more than she's saying - quite possible. Remember the main characters have seen Smokey a few times but he remains a low topic of discussion among the rest of the Fusies. I would be out there every day trying to spot the thing and find out what it was doing and how...

If we apply all your comments to what was learned in the Lost Experience, this could be the equation working to balance itself and create a new set of variables. Introduce the numbers to the Island, let the Island change the numbers until everything works correctly, and in some weird way save the world.

If I keep obsessing over the Numbers, I'm going to end up like Leonard!

Wierd that somene would want them to survive the crash, only to have them end up dying. But again, it seems they were needed to help locke and other losties in our journey.

Yes Kate is used to quick thinking in hairy situations. I be she saw charlie or someone else IN on it... but maybe she cant make out the face in her memory. Somone with our group on the beach did something!!! an inside man!!! or woman

yeah definite setup. also recall the spirit walk Locke goes on. He sees tthem all in the airport and henry gale holding our heroes.... what if some of the others or those people were in on the seating arrangements, security and flight direction...

Hey, one more thing... since you mentioned Leonard Benmar, Why if some govt guys listening in the pacific heard the sequence, why didn't anyone from the govt check it out, or did they?

Lizard mentioned Leonard ha ha that sounds funny... i laughed.... then i went to lostpedia and clicked around.

First i dont think that any govt is listeneing in that area anymore. I Think Leonard was stantioned in the south pacific 16 years ago and its possible they had reason to be there becase of america's ability to get into war. anywho... its also possible that the signal is soo archaeic and odd that its picked up as static or interference, rather than a cylcing progression by our modern instruments.

OR They know its there and they are in on it... ( dont ask me who THEY are)

Henry Gale says they have contact or the like, with the outside world. so maybe they dont need to look for the signal.

Good theory, but it's hard to tell if stuff like the seating arrangements and the numbers were inportant in who survived or just something the writers thought would be cool. For example Jack was in 23b and Ana Lucia was in 42f.
