Inconsistency with Sayid's Nadia?

Why was Sayid on the plane? Because the agents told him Nadia was in the U.S., right?
Sayid even bought a tie right before the plane took off because he wanted to look nice in front of her. Why, then, does Sayid tell Danielle in SOLITARY that "she is dead"? Is this an inconsistency? Or did he somehow learn in between buying the tie and crashing that she had died? And why would he believe this? How are the writers going to pull out of this one?

Maybe he just said that to get some sympathy from his psychopath captor. That's what I think...although he is in a relationship with Shannon...so maybe he knows something we don't.

And when did he buy a tie, LOST? I don't remember that scene.

When someone of Asian origin says that someone is dead it doesn't always mean literally, it's a way of disgracing someone... Just a thought.

The only thing that comes to mind is that maybe Sayid thought that the CIA, or wherever those officers were from, was just telling him that so he would help them out but was going to look for her in America just in case they weren't lying to him.

I agree about Sayid playing the sympathy card. Sayid was a Communication Specialist...he specialised in getting people to communicate. Rousseau was talking about loosing Alex and her crew, Sayid needed to find a common denominator between them for survival. He was playing a psych game. Sayid played a similar game with Locke about Boones death and what Locke and Boone were up to.(even though Locke caught him playing the psych game)

Or, maybe she is dead...in the U.S., and he was on his way to pay his last respects (buying a new tie for the solem occasion)? Why else would he suddenly jump so quickly for Shannon?!
