Hugo "Hurley" Reyes

Hugo "Hurley" Reyes is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Hurley's father disappeared when he was at a young age for almost 17 years. Afterwards, Hurley suffered an eating-disorder and after a traumatic accident he was sent to a mental asylum when he started seeing an imaginary person. Ever since, he has changed and has been extremely concious of his sanity and how people view him. When Hurley won the lottery, he was not overjoyed, instead he was fearful that his life was going to change. Hurley is typically happy-go-lucky and keeps the spirits of his fellow survivors up. He has an eating disorder but has managed to overcome that with the help of Libby, and has even stuck to it after her death. He is also the voice of reason in the group, and uses his common sense to solve difficult situations. Ever since winning the lottery with the mysterious numbers, he has searched for an answer for the curse of bad luck that supposedly plagues him.

Default Locke's bear? Others bear?

Does anybody remember that in " A Tale of Two Cities" , Tom of the Others, said to Sawyer that the bears figured out the fish-biscuit dispenser in 10 minutes. Just wondering if these bears he mentioned may be the one that Locke was battling. It looked like a cross between a wolverine and a polar bear so I'm guessing they may be part of some zooilogical genetic expirement or something. What do you folks think.Comments, theories?

I definetly believe that the bear that attacked Sawyer in the first season, and then Locke in the last episode are from DHARMA. And the bears most likely went through some sort of experimentation whilst in captivity, probaly muscle enhancement, or some genetic type stuff that would improve its abilities.

Dang! those where smart bears. I thought he said it was two hours but I could be wrong. I definitely think they where Dharma bears. They may have been testing them or doing tests on them. I just wonder how many their are out there.

A few, Sawyer I think was right when he asked "How many were there?" (Referring to how man bears). So most likely more then 2.

I agree they are probably Dharma bears. I wonder why they let them go. Wouldn't they be just as dangerous to the Others as to anyone else on the island?

The Others might have a way of controlling the bears, but they might just be taking their chances with them. It's a big island and they have guns.

Polar bears are actually really smart. At the zoo I used to volunteer at, we had this fake stream in their exhibit and the keepers decided to put frozen fish in it to see if it would get the bears to try and fish them out.
Well, they did that for awhile.
But then one of the bears figured out that if you jump into the stream and make a big splash, the fish also splash out of the water.
That was the end of normal bear-fishing for them. lol.

But I also agree that the Dharma bears have been tampered with. They just don't look like normal polar bears...

A polar bear is also the only animal that will hunt down a human for a kill.

There were 3 parts to the conditioning fish biscuit device, and they needed to be pressed almost simultaneously, so it's most likely that there are at least 3. It also assumes that guy (was it Tom?) was present when the bears were being experimented on if he knew how long it took them. Tom could have just 'heard' that it only took the bears two hours, but he sounded like he was speaking from experience.

Tom did say 2 hours. Just FYI.

Still very smart buggers, aren't they?
