Sayid Hassan Jarrah
Sayid Hassan Jarrah is a middle-section survivor of Oceanic Flight 815. A courageous man and a competent leader, Sayid maintains a conservative manner which reflects both strength and spirituality, and tries to atone for the demons in his past. Sayid spent a lot of his adult life search for his childhood-love, Nadia, hoping she is alive. Sayid's past as a torturer constantly plagues him. Some sources say that the swan stands for the ethereal. It represents the presence of divine inspiration in our world.
The definition of "ethereal":lacking material form or substance; unreal; "as insubstantial as a dream"; "an insubstantial mirage on the horizon"
Thus pushing the button is an act of faith based on an unreal conclusion. Saving the world was the mirage on the horizon so to speak.

Hello all, first time posting. I thought I'd make an observation about how the hatches are named:
swan / Cygnus; arrow / Sagitta; hydra / Hydra; flame / sun; pearl / moon ; staff / Ophiucus (serpent holder)
On the blast door map is “hic sunt dracones” so maybe there is a hatch with a dragon for a symbol (Draco)
